Yeah. I dont see the wire hype. I couldn't finish season 1. The Sopranos is perfect.

I’m the opposite. Sopranos is cliche’

I've watched both for the first time in the last year and enjoyed them.

Cweezy, sounds like we work at the same place.

Sopranos holds up very well. It’s also my favorite show of all time.

I actually just started binging The Wire. I was a little thrown off at first, bc it seemed so dated. But I stuck it out a few episodes and the plot and characters really sucked me in.

Can’t go wrong with either in my opinion.

Obviously, they are very different. That said, in my opinion, The Sopranos is a substantially better show. Compared to The Wire, The Sopranos writing was far superior and the acting was unparalleled.

The Wire is the greatest piece of literature we have produced as a culture in the past 50 years.

Sopranos is one of the greatest most fascinating rides in TV history.

Both have not tarnished one bit through the years and hold up content-wise just as well as ever.

Season 2 of Jack Ryan is not even in the same universe as either one of the shows you’re asking about.

I liked The Wire but don’t see the GOAT status like many seem to. Just a solid cop/crime drama.

I don’t even recall ever really being hooked enough to binge late night into the next episode like with many otherwise lesser shows (Sons of Anarchy comes to mind, worse overall but had many addicting plotlines here and there).

Same. But if you don't act like it was the best thing ever on a screen, you get rained on here.

The Wire story lines are probably more true than ever in today's climate.

For me the Sopranos is the GOAT

The Wire is solid and holds up, but I'll always have the Sopranos way ahead of it

I’ll give you the acting but that’s a hot take with the writing.

The wire does an incredible job of building story arcs and weaving them into the seasons.

Main characters were a tie. Secondary character acting was si much better in the wire. Example: Jackie jr and Anthony jr.

The wires initial leaning on pay phones, pagers, and burner cell phones makes it feel more dated than it should.

As far as plot, characters, dialogue, and pacing it’s still a top 2 TV show of all time.

Love The Sopranos.
Love The Wire.

Justified is a very good show but nowhere on either show's level. The Shield, however, belongs in this discussion.
