Cost and time it takes to play a round at most places are big factors. I'm 59 and play ready golf and play pretty quickly. I hate being behind the 10 practice swings, line up putts from every angle possible, still shoot 90 groups. As for the etiquette, you can be courteous and still play at a good pace. I like to listen to music while I play but will turn it down if it bothers someone in the group. It should be a fun game but too often it isn't do to factors you can't control.

I think this has more to do with people not playing than anything else.

It is just not an easy game to pickup. It costs a ton of money and is really tough to get your game decent in a short period without lessons.

Not much bothers me in the golf course, but music of any sort will send me into a blind rage. It’s like people who play music on the beach. Part of the reason I go out there is to escape extraneous noise.
