PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University Athletics announced Thursday that Head Coach Mike Leach and the University have agreed in principle to a provision in Leach's contract that extends the agreement an additional year through the 2024 season, bringing it to a five-year contract. "Mike Leach has established, and continued, a culture of success at Washington State, both academically and athletically, that few have matched," said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun. "He has returned WSU to national prominence, is one of the top football coaches in the nation, and we are fortunate to have him leading our program." This year Leach has led the Cougars to their fifth-straight bowl appearance, the only time in program history that has been accomplished. WSU will find out which bowl it is going to Sunday afternoon. Additionally, Leach has guided Washington State to 43 victories, and counting, over the past five years, the best five-year stretch in school history. "We are excited about going to our fifth-straight bowl game and look forward to another exciting season in 2020. Go Cougs!" said Leach. In keeping with his agreement signed following the 2017 season, Leach's 2020 compensation will be $4 million, while the following four years he is also scheduled to make $4 million per year. Following the 2020 season, Leach will also receive a one-time retention bonus of $750,000. In his eight seasons leading the Cougars, Leach has amassed 55 victories, which ranks third in program history. He has guided the Cougars to six bowl games in the past seven years, also a first for a Cougar coach, while the Cougar offense has led the nation in passing four times in that span.

From what I've seen Mizzou couldn't afford him and Ol Miss didn't want him.
I believe he did interview with Arkansas, but him taking the extension means they probably informed him he wasn't chosen.

If Mizzou can't afford $4MM, we should just go back to Odom.

I'm not saying that's the case, just what I read

Leach was never a candidate for Mizzou.
Sterk hiring Leach would never happen.

Kiffin will be calling the Hogs after his game.

Meaning he was told he’s not the guy at Arkansas.

That’s a good job by Wash state. They’re a good fit, 4 million dollars isn’t a bad price, and leach will have a 10 win breakout season pretty soon.

I agree especially with Peterson stepping down at Washington. He is very high on his replacement but it's hard to replace that much successful experience.

mike leach could be one of the more overrated coaches out there.

So an extra year, but no raise?
We want him in the SEC because his pressers are legendary, and we are curious to see how his offense would work here.
He probably wants to be left alone and doesn't want the exposure and pressure that coaching in the SEC would bring.
Leach really is a different person.

Jimmy Lake and Pete Kwiatkowski have always been Leach's kryptonite. Both of those guys are still around. Until Leach makes some sort of adjustment to his offense when they play UW, I don't see WSU winning the game. Leach has never scored more than 17 points against those guys (6 years and counting).
That being said, Leach is a perfect fit at WSU. I feel like he's the type of coach that can get WSU to consistently hit their ceiling, which is anywhere between 8 and 11 wins. His personality fits there perfectly as well. WSU fans love him, although the Apple Cup has been very frustrating for them.

He is, without any doubt, #1 on that list

He's taken two bottom dwellers and made them pretty dang respectable. I hope he stays for life.

Leach was perfect for Arkansas. I’m actually glad they didn’t hire him bc I didn’t want to play him.

How long until SMS tells us this is a bad move?

A lot of Hogs are too dumb to realize it, but they really got lucky that Leach is not heading to Fayetteville. Leach's system, which is honestly not great, would get destroyed in the SEC.

Arkansas you can’t afford to beat 4 million a year ? Seems disappointing.we need better coaches in the conference.
