Not every roster is capable of playing balls to the wall offense and then playing balls to the wall defense.
Here’s a thought experiment, why isn’t the Carlisle 13-6 Mavericks, or the 17-3 Lakers cribbing our system? The one size fits all Gentry is just so certain that if a team can execute they will be highly successful?
Is it that Gentry, despite 15 years of knowledge about the Suns system and pace and space analytics, is still the only coach that sees the light? Or is it perhaps that other coaches, coaches with sustained success, understand that systems are not one size fits all, that like Carlisle said, their game is not and should not be pace for pace’s sake, they will play with speed, but will do so strategically and circumstantially. Implying his roster needs to be catered to to maximize it’s output, that the roster shouldn’t be expected to cater to the system.
