He was working with a serious case case of bad coaching luck this season. Lost his entire linebacker crew in the preseason and significant parts of his D-line and had to replace the whole bunch with freshmen as their was zero depth. Comparing him to Smart/Pruitt as a DC is not easy as neither ever had the same misfortune and both had tons of depth. The casual fan ignores those things and just wants retribution. His position group was a disaster, a freshman who should be playing maybe fullback in a run scheme and another frosh who was a position change. Both running around like a chicken with his head cutoff. Must have been confusing to an OC scouting the Tide to figure out just where they would be.

Golding will be gone. Sabah won't announce it this early, but he's gone

Here's what I can't ignore. A defense that looked just as lost and confused in week 12 as in week 1. A true freshman QB who had played like a true freshman all year suddenly looking like a 4 year starter. A coach who had the audacity to claim with a straight face that their offense was a "work in progress" in week 10 looking like a genius playcaller. A loss to a rival they had no business losing to for the second time in three years, and the supposed GOAT coach whining and making excuses after the game.

I'll be nice and leave out the LSU game, though as far as I'm concerned Alabama had no business losing that game either.

So fine, I've been assured that Saban is infallible and cannot be held accountable for these things. The least he can do is hold someone else accountable. If he won't even do that he can frick off to the Cowboys for all I care.
