What do retired SEALS do after?
I mean, their skills are pretty unique and illegal in most states.
Do they just go work at Bed, Bath and Beyond like the Other Guys?

The quick answer is, anything they want.
I would suspect some guys with this unique skillset would go into a form of security work.

Plenty... contract work, security details, personal protection, etc, etc...

They used to work for Blackwater etc or they are tapped by CIA like Kinzinger and McCain.

Security Consultants. Take that anyway you like it.
I would normally agree on nixing the book, but Gallagher is hot, and may not get the opportunities that others would get in the private sector.

What does an infantryman or a canon cocker do after? There are a lot of military jobs that don't have many civilian analogs. IF they want to use their skillset they can work for security companies, law enforcement, defense contractors, etc.
A lot of people hire retired military just for their discipline and work ethic and they learn something completely unrelated to their military job. I know a SEAL who went to work for AT&T doing something with accounts.

Nine Line is hiring him.

The one claimed SEAL that I know was a computer programmer. He also quit that line of work temporarily to start selling RVs... in the summer of 2005.
He showed back up later when he couldn’t get anymore inventory because the Feds had requisitioned all of it as soon as it crossed state lines.

A lot of them go into the civi world as trainers. Offering up classes on how to use pistol/carbine/hair gel.
