As brash and boorish Trump may be, he never made the stupid mistake of insulting voters and specific locations like Rispone did with New Orleans
I thought that was strange too. I felt like that part came straight from Rispone. It was an old-school move from an old guy who came up in the days when New Orleans was more powerful than it is now, and strongly resented by much of the rest of the state. 30 years ago, being loudly anti-New Orleans was a more politically profitable stance.

Jeez, how did Abraham lose to that guy?
South Louisiana wouldn't vote for a good candidate because he was from north La.

That's because your campaign strategy for the month prior to election day utterly failed jackass.
He and his out-of-state cronies were paid upwards of a million cash for that analysis too, while squandering another $10 million of Rispone's money.

Look I hear you, and any losing campaign has plenty of blame to spread around, but the buck's ultimately got to stop with the candidates in any election. The candidates make the final decisions on what their strategy is going to be. If the candidate doesn't know better than to reject bad advice, then that's the candidate's fault. Rispone may not have been through campaigns personally before, but he was experienced, very smart, and politically astute, because he'd seen politics from the backroom angle for decades. If a 70 year old man can't tell us what issues he wants to focus on as governor, he's hopeless.
So I'm assuming these ideas for nationalizing the campaign either originated with Rispone, or were approved by Rispone as his considered judgment that they were the best available.
And I think it was 100% Rispone, rather than his out of state consultants, who thought it was better for Rispone not to travel around the state and make more appearances. I think he really thought that his money was going to win this for him.
I don't think the "that hid him from gaffes" was the real reason. I paid attention to the campaign and yes, Rispone was awkward, Elmer Fudd-like, and he did make some gaffes. But he didn't make a lot of really bad ones. Especially when he wasn't put on the spot. If he had made it a priority to personally barnstorm north Louisiana after the primary, appearing before rallies and sympathetic audiences to give his stump speech, he might have made up the difference that he lost by. I think, at 70+ years of age, he was happy living more of the life he had at home and didn't want to deal with all of that.
There's no guarantee of course that he would've won if he had worked harder. But the fact remains, he put a lot less work into this campaign than he could have.

So Rispone who put up millions to run was suppose to buy Abraham’s debt or else?
Sorry Abraham, you pay it off yourself. You had no business in the race. You didn’t have enough money for one primary.

The blame lies totally with Rispone, I was only commenting on the excuse the weasel grifter made. With a competent strategy JBE's approval wouldn't have been at 56% on election day.

Sentrius, I know you’re still grappling with this, but maybe he’s right? Maybe it’s hard to beat a popular incumbent who is scandal free and pro-life and pro-gun in a VERY um...urban demographic.

And Rispone's campaign was so incompetent, terrible and inept enough to give people reasons to vote for that sleazeball.

Abraham beats JBE

Oh I’ve never said that he wasn’t formidable. Just that he was not invincible and was capable of losing and the opportunity was there.
GOP share of the electorate was at 52% in the first round.
Rispone was so terrible he managed to lose 3% of that in the runoff to drop to 49%.
That’s data the carpetbagger wants you to ignore to cover his arse.

I meant when I said that Rispone gave stupid and emotional people a reason to vote against him.
Congrats on being one of those stupid and emotional people.

Rispone didn't lose votes, the Dems managed to register and deliver more votes for JBE than they did in the primary. Rispone got 20k more votes in the General than all of JBE's opponents combined in the Primary.
Primary:
JBE: 625,970
All others combined: 717,511
General:
JBE: 774,498
Rispone: 734,286

quote:If JBE would’ve won outright in the October general election, he’d have a point. But considering that Abraham and Rispone combined for 51% vs JBE’s 46.6% shows JBE was very much beatable, regardless of what Rispone campaign’s exit polling showed
“On Election Day, our exit poll had John Bel Edwards’ approval rating at 56%,” Reed said. “

The man didn’t have enough money. He couldn’t get his message out, He had no shot head to head v Edwards. No shot.
He ran out of money in the first primary..

Rispone didn't lose votes
Sorry, but there’s just no way to know for sure.
Sure, the GOP May have increased turnout but the democrats with excellent GOTV efforts may have canceled that out and thus 2019 being the exception to the norm for decreased turnout during runoffs in Louisiana.
So with that said, I fully believe it came down to how many Abraham voters he could win and how much of the vote share in Orleans and EBR Parishes he could get.
And Rispone did not contest EBR and Orleans and even attacked the latter which was a completely stupid thing to do as you cannot insult voters no matter how liberal or conservative they are.
Kyle Ardoin won by 18 points with these same voters even with less voting in the race.

Good points though.
I hope you post more.

Wrong 52% of the voters in the first primary, not nearly 52% of the electorate.
Rispone upped the vote against Edwards, but he couldn’t offset the Dem machine which went into overdrive to increase their turnout while Rispone failed to fire up hid side near as much.

Are you really going to say something like this definitively?
That millions from the RGA, RNC, LABI, and so on would not help him? Rispone would not donate to Abraham and hold fundraisers for him? Donors around the state and out of state would not give a cent to him?
All Abraham had to do to fix his money problem was make the runoff.
Ralph may have had run out of money but Rispone is the one who did not use his wisely and ended up blindly trusting his staff and letting them fleece him out of millions.

Rispone tricked you guys into believing he was a legitimate candidate. Those of us with common sense saw right through him.
