Hunting Cabin ideas

Looking to put a cabin on my land but not break the bank. Looking for something durable. Came across some pics of people using those prefab metal garages and closing them out. Anyone have some good ideas and been down this road on the cheap? I'll remodel the kitchen at the house and install it into this cabin. I may even renovate a bathroom and have that transferred too

Buy two C-Cans and join them together. Cut the walls out where they join. Trim as you wish

I have a cheap 18 wheeler van trailer for sale. $2000 Doesn’t leak. It’s either 42 or 53ft long by 8 1/2 wide.
Wheels still on so you can haul it to wherever you want to put it.

Shipping container
I’ve heard of a few people actually going through with these. The container really isn’t that expensive.

Yep, shipping container is the ticket. I’ve bought several of them recently for construction projects and they can be had for $2,500+...the never used or once used containers are more than that but if you’re going to improve it then that wouldn’t really matter. I’m probably going to build a few out on our property in the next couple yrs to use as bunk houses. Cool thing is they can be moved at a later date.

Built one on my place about 10 years back. Any carpentry skills? Mine ended up being bigger than I wanted. Balloon framed using 16’ 2x6 so I could have a loft. Paid someone to install the rafters, decking, and metal roof. Would have been much easier and cheaper if I had just built something 12x20. Also bought a small sawmill afterwards that I used for misc structures. Looking back I wish I had gotten sooner and used it for the cabin.
Also check the small cabin forum for ideas.

+1 for seacan.
I've seen some where they were able to stitch weld them together and make a hell of a nice camp.

I made my cabin out of one of the Amish built portable storage buildings. I had them put larger windows in that I had been given from a friend in the construction business. It opened it up a bit and made it feel more larger letting more light in. It’s 14x28. I had it plumbed, wired, insultated. I put in a bathroom, and kitchen. Plenty big to sleep 4.
I had an old 1830’s farmhouse on the property that was too far gone to restore but had plenty of salvageable wood, tin, doors, and hand bean logs. I finished the inside myself and have about 10K in it. That includes cost of the building( about 7K and the rest cost about 3K. That’s sinks, toilet, shower, hot water heater, fuse box and power pole, etc, etc.
It looks like it belongs in the woods, especially when I finish the woodwork on the exterior.
It took me 2 years but I could only get out there about 5 weekends a year to work. I enjoyed the process and finished it out using what I had and my imagination. I can take it anywhere I may move as well.

Another plus to the c-can is that they can be considered a movable structure like a camper. Basically not making property taxes go up as a perminant structure.
BIL even found a trailer house frame with axles, rigged up some lights, and welded it to that. He can tow it with his 1-ton truck.
Eta: you can also get them as a hi-cube which are 9'6" tall instead of 8'. That extra 1-1/2' makes a huge diff in overall inside space.

This is what I did on the 300 acres I bought last year. I bought 2 40’ c-cans and modified it how we wanted it. Love it.

You put them end to end?
Haha
You have any pictures?

Side by side and it’s a sectional. I don’t think I have any pics on my phone but I’ll get my brother to send me a pic if he has one or I’ll snap some pics Thursday evening and post.

Park a camper under a large carport.

I am not as big on the can as others in this thread (they can store some nasty stuff) but at work, construction crew will put two of them parallel to each other. In the middle they frame a roof. It is where we congregate. The cans are used as offices and storage. Would work well as a camp.

I thought about doing that but I got those 40’ c-cans for basically nothing. Before I decided to go with the c-cans I was looking at campers but was going to buy something used and cheap and just build roof over it.
Damn 257, haven’t seen you post much this season. If I remember correctly you hunt south of me in Concordia, right? Draw any blood yet this season. Looking forward to our IST/ IBT threads over the holidays.

Buy a modified trailer to connect to your utilities then put whatever additions you want to it.

I would not build a hunting cabin.
Like what I said, buy a trailer then build onto it.
Can I ask what your budget is?

I built a 11'x35' 1 bedroom trailer on wheels.
this thing is really nice just not big enough for when the whole family comes up.
So I will be building a new camp sometime next year.
As of now my plan is
Order a Graceland building 16x40, have it delivered and I will build it out as a 2 bedroom with large porch.
I know you said cheap so this may not be your best option,
The building delivered and set up is about 15k, that was an over the phone quote.

Not getting a good signal at camp, so not posting the day of hunt too often. I’m up in Madison Parish. Just killed one doe with bow. Looks like it’ll be a good year.

It's more of a place to go and and spend the night on my permanently owned land. Looking to spend under 10k. I have a 40ft shipping container I use for storage. While they are affordable and tough, I don't want to have to cut and join them. They are narrow. I want something that is about 20ft by 30ft. I was thinking about building a raised foundation and setting one of those metal garages on top and closing it in. Figured I'd ask for ideas. I've had a 28ft FEMA trailer under an awning. It was ok but too narrow. I want something more spacious. Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming if you have a setup around the size I'm thinking
