I don’t think it’s bad data, I think it’s simply reinforcement data by the readers that they made the ‘correct’ choice.
I don’t know enough about their ‘studies’ to comment on the scientific validity. I don’t like the publication and it doesn’t ring true to me as a ‘test kitchen’ type of service.
I worked for Underwriters Laboratories out in Santa Clara and there was always beef. Hard to explain, but we tried to make products better by changing build and test Codes and they try with...well sure AF not working through the safety commission. They just seem to talk a lot of shite for a company who changes nothing...but they’re ’all for the consumer’.
Probably out of place when discussing cars...but I’ve regretted every vehicle purchase I made for reliability.

I've had three Challengers since 2009. Zero issues with any of them.
So the "Dodge sucks for reliability" crowd can go frick themselves

Appears to be models, not brands.

As stated numerous times in the thread it is brands, not models. The models shown have CRs lowest and highest predicted reliability for each marque.

Predicted??
So this is just a list of who donated the most to Consumer Reports?

Yes, predicted. You can't talk about actual reliability for a car that hasn't been sold to anyone yet. You have to use past reliability data to predict the reliability of what someone buys tomorrow. It is just like MTBF/AFR for a component.
As for the donation part, you don't understand how CR works, you may be thinking of JD Power and Associates.
