I apologize for what might be a stupid question for the connoisseur, but what is the difference between whisky and whiskey? Is it just European v American spelling or something else?
I can barely spell my own name, I do the best I can.

I've had a 20 litre charred white oak barrel filled with Glenfiddich 12 for about 4 years now, and just top it off as I pull out of it. Its really smooth now.
So you’re saying you have five gallons of GF12?

It is my favorite when I get a chance to have a glass that’s not outrageous. Rib Room at the Omni Orleans had it for $26 a glass a few years ago. Great price for a glass at the time. Haven’t been ther in a couple years so not sure if they still have it and probably not still at that price. I’ve had a few glasses of 25 year and an $85 pour of “Rare Cask”. IMHO 18 beats the socks off of 25 and rare cask. Everybody has different opinions. Wife bought me a 15 year two years ago for Christmas which was good but not anywhere near 18. The 12 is ok and the 10 is crap IMHO.

That makes me feel good. I was wondering about the older ones but Im happy with the 18 for the money.

I don't know. Why did you?

I’ve never bought a bottle of 18 but if I could find it at 269 as you say you bought I would probably buy 3 bottles because I like it that much.

It to me smelled like whiskey smells like. It taste good without the burn that you're used to. The main difference is the finish. When it hits your belly its like a second shot. I literally said wow. Its very high quality.

It's $259 at total wine.
It's okay, but lives off the name.

Is “total wine” a web site or a local store? I’m very intrested at this price.

I've actually become a big high end rye whiskey fan. It isn't as sweet as bourbon and has a nice buttery finish. I enjoy a good scotch but some of them are just not my cup of tea especially the Islay. I feel like I had an 18 year balveni that was on point. McAllen is just a good entry point. There are tons of different scotch flavors depending on the region. There is a rye whiskey I've had can't think of the name of it but the bottle is unique. Super long neck with a very wide round bottom. To me they drink better neat than Bourbon.
My favorite is top end Scotch, then top end rye, then top end bourbon. I feel like bourbon is absurdly overrated because it is overtly sweet. Their goal is to get it as sweet as possible with some aromatics. It is a one trick pony. Just my opinion though.

Sounds like Willett Bourbon.
They make a rye, but the bottle doesn't have a unique shape.

Also you should look up the "branding" of what makes something be able to use the name "Bourbon". It is nothing but a bunch of garbage created by a certain place in Kentucky. It would be like proclaiming that the original and king of football is Notre Dame. The only place football is really played is "Notre Dame".
Branding is one of many things that is complete BS that drives me nuts. Buy local.
Btw I'm sipping on 2 fingers of George Dickle rye and then closing it out Lagunitas Maximus IPA. This isn't an humble brag or anything but find you a local store. Figure out which of the employees knows whiskeys and then discuss your price range and preferred flavor profile. Some people take this shite seriously and are good at their job when you give them some details. shite some of them have tasting events. Drink responsibly

Total wine is a national liquor chain. They aren't in Louisiana though.

I have a bottle of The Macallan Enigma I haven't cracked yet.

Y'all have fun. McAllen isn't the only 18 out there. It is mass produced, ask around different stores and find someone that knows their whiskeys and Scotches. I worked at a couple of package stores back in the day. Cabs, tequila, malbecs, and rum were my dig and expertise at the time. Cheers and hopefully we some good football tomorrow. Drink responsibly and know that branding sometimes creates overrated and overvalued price points. A ribeye at Ruth Chris is better than a ribeye at Applebee's. And your local steak shop is better than both.
