Burrow's Numbers Vs Past Greats

(Updated) Obviously Burrow has put up some incredible numbers this season but I wanted some perspective. I wanted to compare Joe's stats so far this season to some of the past college greats. I wasn't ready for this...
'19 Burrow - 268-341, 3,687 yards, 38 TDs, 6 Int, 78.6% completion percentage
'96 Wuerffel - 207-360, 3,625 yards, 39 TDs, 13 Int, 57.5%
'97 Manning - 287-477, 3,819 yards, 36 TDs, 11 Int, 60.2%
'97 Leaf - 227-410, 3,968 yards, 34 TDs, 11 Int, 55.4%
So with two games to go Burrow has almost matched the season totals for these guys. These are just a few QBs that popped in my head for comparison. I'm sure he's exceeded the numbers of several great college QBs of the past.

You could discount the yardage stats somewhat because of how offenses are run these days and the fact that the rules are even more tilted in favor of the offense than they were in the 90's. But the stat that jumps off the page is the completion percentage. Almost 80% is an absurd and mind-blowing number. Joe's accuracy is Brees-like. And it's not just that he's throwing completions. He's hitting his guys right in stride so that they can keep running and add on some YAC.

Those completion percentage numbers are shocking. The rules and modern offenses obviously favor the QBs, but damn....

'08 Bradford: 328/483, 4,720 yards, 50 TD, 8 INT, 67.9%
^Most absurd pasing season in modern era IMO.

A minimum of 5 games left and a possible 6 lol.

Or is it just different?
I grew up as a young kid in the 90s and idolized everything about the sport. From logos and colors to rivalries and stats.
What I thought was good back then really isn't when compared to today's standards. I think it all changed around 2008. Last years three QB competition was gawdy.
I was thinking about Joey Harrington because of a stupid post on the rant. He finished 3rd in the Heisman rankings with some fairly pedestrian statistics.
Eric Crouch won that year. Yeah he could run, but 7tds and 10 int?!
Then I started looking around...
Even Danny Weurffel who I considered a god back then had a terrible completion percentage.
207/360 57.5%
3,625 yds
39 tds 13 int
Those numbers are okay. That 3:1 td:int ratio was considered good back then. Now it's more like 8:1 for elite qbs!
Joe Burrow's stats are light years better than what Danny Weurffel's were. I never thought I'd be able to say that about an LSU qb. But hell, I think Jamarcus was too. '
Anyway, carry on.

Troy Smith won the Heisman with a record 91.6% first place votes. That's a record landslide vote. Joe has already destroyed his numbers from that season.
'06 Smith - 203-311, 2,542 yards, 30 TDs, 6 Int, 65.3%, 204 yards rushing, 1 TD
'19 Burrow - 236-299, 3,198 yards, 33 TDs, 4 Int, 78.9%, 189 yards rushing, 3 TDs

hard to compare QBs from 20+ years ago to ones today. Offenses are completely different.

this is absolute madness right here.
Im not sure most realize how stupid this stat is.
Sick.

Brees.
Saints should pull a Ricky Williams sell the farm trade to nab burrow and let him learn under Brees for a couple years.

Let me extrapolate for you.
Assuming his numbers hold and there's no reason for us to think that they won't, and he makes it to the national championship game. Here are his numbers on the season
'19 Burrow - 4,975 yards, 51 TDs, 6 Int, 78.9%, 367/465, 10.7 YPA
... and he isn't even going to face another defense like Auburn which really hurt his numbers
ETA: shite. yall beat me to it.
ETA: Brennan and Burrow actually have a matching opponent. Obviously, there are a ton of variables here and InB4 'transitive property' but here are the numbers.
'06 Brennan vs Alabama - 350 yards, 2 TDs, 1 Int, 68.2%, 30/44, 8.0 YPA
'19 Burrow vs. Alabama - 393 yards, 3 TDs, 0 Int, 79.5%, 31/39, 10.1 YPA
And suffice it to say that a Mike Shula coached, 6-7, 2006 Alabama team is not a Nick Saban coached, 2019 Alabama team.

Heres the deal. Burrow is the best college player in the country and its not close. In fact, he's the best since Cam Newton.

If LSU makes the CFP National Championship game Burrow will have 5,000 yards and 50 TDs.

matt Stafford was pretty good too, or I thought so at the time.
