The Astros will find a way to be just as dominant next season. They’ll just have to do it a different way.
They might lack the dominance of Cole at the top of the rotation, but they maybe could do just as well with depth. Young guys will step up.

2020 To-Do List
1. Extend George
2. Replace Cole (suggestions?)
3. Resign Harris and Smith on the cheap
4. Win AL West
5. Break my heart

Still a great season... just hate that it ended with so much wasted opportunity.
Still going to be the AL West favorites next year, even after Cole goes to Anaheim.

There’s some interesting under the radar pitchers who could be available for fairly cheap. Porcello intrigues me as a bounce back type we might be able to get the most out of. None are going to be Cole. I expect next years rotation to be
Verlander
Greinke
McCullers
Urquidy
FA or trade addition
With Sánchez a possibility or filling a swing role

Strasburg once he opts out.

Is anyone kind of glad Cole did what he did last night so that there's no drama in the offseason over whether he may resign?

Crane has already said he wants to get under the tax right? That seems like it will be hard to do considering yall have like 150 million already committed and Springer is going to get over 20 in arbitration. Going to be a weird offseason for yall if Crane actually forces that on luhnow

Free agents SPs...
Starting pitchers
Gerrit Cole (29 years old, 7.4 WAR)
Stephen Strasburg (31, 5.7) -- can opt out of 4 years, $100 million remaining on contract
Hyun-Jin Ryu (33, 4.8)
Zack Wheeler (30, 4.7)
Jake Odorizzi (30, 4.3)
Jose Quintana (31, 3.3) -- $11.5 million club option for 2020 ($1 million buyout)
Madison Bumgarner (30, 3.2)
Homer Bailey (34, 2.9)
Michael Pineda (30, 2.7)
Yu Darvish (33, 2.6) -- can opt out of 4 years, $81 million remaining on contract
Kyle Gibson (32, 2.5)
Cole Hamels (36, 2.5)
Adam Wainwright (38, 2.2)
Tanner Roark (33, 2.0)
Wade Miley (33, 2.0)
Brett Anderson (32, 2.0)
Ivan Nova (33, 2.0)
Martin Perez (29, 1.9) -- $7.5 million club option for 2020 ($500,000 buyout)
Andrew Cashner (33, 1.8) -- $10 million club option for 2020
Jason Vargas (37, 1.8) -- $8 million club option for 2020 ($2 million buyout)
Rick Porcello (31, 1.8)
Julio Teheran (29, 1.6) -- $12 million club option for 2020 ($1 million buyout)
Gio Gonzalez (34, 1.4)
Jake Arrieta (34, 1.1) -- can opt out of 1 year, $20 million remaining on contract unless Phillies exercise 2-year, $40 million option
Rich Hill (40, 0.9)
Dallas Keuchel (32, 0.8)
Chris Archer (31, 0.7) -- $9 million club option for 2020 ($1.75 million buyout)
Corey Kluber (34, 0.6) -- $17.5 million club option for 2020 ($1 million buyout)
Matt Moore (31, 0.5)
Clay Buchholz (35, 0.1)
Tyson Ross (33, 0.0)
Felix Hernandez (34, -0.1)
Jhoulys Chacin (32, -0.1)
Jeremy Hellickson (33, -0.1)
Odrisamer Despaigne (33, -0.1)
Michael Wacha (28, -0.2)
Alex Wood (29, -0.2)
Edinson Volquez (36, -0.2)
Marco Estrada (36, -0.2)
Shelby Miller (29, -0.2)
Clayton Richard (36, -0.2)
Drew Smyly (29, -0.3)
Wade LeBlanc (35, -0.3) -- $5 million club option for 2020 ($450,000 buyout)
Matt Harvey (31, -0.3)
Héctor Noesi (33, -0.3)
Ervin Santana (37, -0.4)
Trevor Cahill (32, -0.8)
Derek Holland (33, -1.0)
Edwin Jackson (36, -1.1)
I think Wheeler or Odorizzi would be excellent grabs that Strom could work with.
I also don't hate the idea of seeing what Felix Hernandez could do with some more pine tar... er, spin rate.

Luhnow always manages to find some low cost, unexciting but surprisingly productive pitcher to add
Scott Feldman
Charlie Morton
Wade Miley

Altuve and Bregman have been paid. Has Correa? I know Springer will need to work something out.

I agree! Trade Correa and get the haul. Move Bregs to short and sign Donaldson.

No.
He'll get paid either through an extension or through arbitration.
Same with Springer, but he's one year closer to free agency.

They’re going to have to work some financial magic to be able to afford a Wheeler or Odorizzi

I'd like to go back to 2017 where our team was carried by the offense.

Ride or die with the Astros and we died game 180.
Luck does exist based on the first 4-5 innings last night. Sad way for it to end. I will not blame Hinch for getting Grienke out, he did what he thought was best based on how that inning was going. The walk to Soto was crap, but you are putting in a guy you trust to get a couple outs in Harris.
On to 2019, now I can get my weeknights back and to the gym early in the mornings

Highly unlikely to happen... but... if it does...

Sign Rendon, not Donaldson.
