Is it far fetched to think that the recent surge in the running game has been brought on by the fact that teams are now coming into the game prepared for the Pass first?

What a novel idea that has been preached for years with regard to LSU if so.

We have consistently gotten more success running the football, specifically in these big SEC matchups, against teams with stout D Lines.

There is no doubt that the concern brought on by the passing threat has forced teams to give up something up front, allowing us to establish outstanding running games on top of an already prolific passing attack.

I am excited to see how Bama chooses to attack from a defensive standpoint, and how it is different from years past.

Cant wait for next weekend, I sense something special.

it's a factor, no doubt. but you have to admit that Clyde's vision and patience seems to improve every single game. plus the run blocking.

it's everything! baby!

I couldn't agree with you more about Helaire, he has been everything we have needed from a back this year.

But we have had some really great backs come through here that have been stalemated through no fault of their own, because of our obvious lack of a passing threat.

Can only imagine what those guys would do in this offense as well.

It is definitely an awesome place to be when you have so much confidence in an offense and specifically the QB's ability to win you games.

Big season on our hands that we will all remember for a long time.

The run game has definitely come along over the year. Seeing us run on teams when we spread them out is a breath of fresh air compared to what we're used to seeing. Clyde has been one of our brightest stars, especially considering that many expected the freshmen to pass him.

How many people on this board felt Helaire would be an afterthought with the stud freshmen coming in?

It’s a reason, but not the whole reason. CEH is a great back. He was obviously underrated coming out of high school. He embodies the typical back that succeeds in a spread offense.

He’s got a great football IQ and runs hard. Not every back can do what he does. I’m glad he’s on our team. Great character young man, as well.

Geaux Tigers.

The offensive line, mind you, is playing lights-out this year in this scheme.

Either Bama gets lit up by the receivers for 7+ yards per pass attempt, or gets pounded for 5+ yards a carry by CEH and TDP... Like Auburn did.

Their choice, really.

This time TDs in the red zone.

It was also mentioned that we switched back to a more traditional zone scheme for the Vandy game because the running game was not clicking early on. Since then, we have seen a major improvement. Looks to be peaking at the right time!

We have not run the ball at all against Bama for at least five years. Maybe since the debacle in the championship game. The Bama defense is plenty good enough to,stop us and has the SEC sack leader.

We are going to have to throw the ball well to our play makers.

We hopefully can run enough to keep them honest.

Our center got destroyed last year by Williams. We could not run up the middle against Auburn.

Burrow is probably going to have to run a little bit more.

I really wish people would stop lumping every Bama defense from the past in with 2019 Bama defense. It's poster like this who just post without even having knowledge on the subject they are talking about.

This Alabama defense is playing multiple true freshman in their front 7 not because of their talent but due to injures. This has caused them to give up 23 points & 459 total yards to South Carolina then 31 points, 476 yards (279 ON THE GROUND) to Ole Miss.

Those offenses have nowhere near the QB or overall talent LSU has on offense. The biggest difference between this 2019 LSU/Bama matchup is the offensive of the Tigers now resembles the multiple receiver, spread sets that teams who have had success against Bama's defenses have used over the past several seasons.

With that said, Bama's 2019 defensive rankings are skewed due to the numerous inept offenses they have faced so far this season with the worst being the Arkansas offense they just went up against. With Saban having to now respect the potent LSU passing attack, HE'S GOING TO HAVE TO play a lot of nickel & dime packages which will leave his defensive front vulnerable to the run simply based off the numbers game.

Now there have already been several threads questioning if Saban will try to duplicate the game plan Auburn used. I would guess the answer is no. First off, those freshman in their front 7 have already struggled at times with basic assignments. No way Saban is going to try to implement a complex scheme with so many freshman & run the risk of his players (LBs) blowing their assignments which would lead to big offensive plays by LSU.

I think Saban knows his defense can't completely shut down the Tigers offense. His thing will be to try to limit the big plays, win on 3rd down & limit redzone damage. I could easily see him dropping 7 & 8 defenders in the secondary on a majority of plays while conceding to lesser numbers in the box which would allow for the LSU offense to have success on the ground. In turn, it slows the game down by eating clock.

Even if Tua plays or not, he will not be 100% healthy. That injury will have an effect on Tua's mechanics so he will miss throws he normally makes & will be limited with his ability to avoid pressure in the pocket like he tends to do. All those factors will make it harder for the Tide to score in bunches like they have done for so much of this season. This is my reasoning as to why I feel this matchup with Bama will be the best on the ground against them that we've seen in years.
