Anyone here into casting bullets ?

I recently had an offer I couldn't refuse on a rifle and pistol I had and took that money and turned it into a new Taurus Raging Hunter in 454 Casull. I owned a Raging Bull before and really liked it and it was always in the back of my mind to get another one one day.

When I started shopping for bullets to load I started reading about powder coating cast bullets. I never considered casting for fear of leading the barrel but 3 or 4 days on castboolits alleviated those fears. And since I already have the lead, pot, and powder coat from making fishing lures all I needed was a mold.

I bought a Lee 6 cavity mold in 255 grain FP for a 45 colt. After casting I measured several and they were consistent on diameter and within 3 grains on weight so I then powder coated them and loaded them into 454 Casull brass over 9 grains of Titegroup that was left from my trap shooting days. Haven't put them over the chronograph but I am guessing 1000fps give or take.

Loaded up 50 and shot them and am happy to report all went bang and are pretty accurate. Best is that my barrel is shiny like new with no leading at all. My lead was free from a buddy at a dealership, and brass was as well as I have a few buddies who shoot 454 but don't want to reload. So I am at about .06 per round with .04 of that being the primer and I guesstimated .02 for powder and powder coat. I am pleased with the results and have cast about 400 now to load up for fun plinking.

Also bought 100 of the Hornady 240 grain XTP Mags to hunt with. Plan is 17-1800 fps and keep shots under 50 yards.
