Well said.
ETA: I hate the Lakers, but it applies to any team.

I figure maybe he figured all Lakers fans are bandwagon fans?
I grew up in the 80's with Magic and the Showtime Lakers. There are a lot of fans like that.

Isn’t that the definition of bandwagon?

If you owned a boat named West Coast Ag, and then you replaced every single piece of the boat in 6 months, is it still the same boat?
If you've had that boat your entire life and had a great many of awesome adventures during your life, you really don't know the answer is to the question of what is your connection to that boat?

Like seriously, sell me on this team’s “connection” to the fans
I'd be willing to bet if you answered the same question about those 2 teams for you, that would be the same answer for Lakers fans, and I'm pretty surprised that wasn't very obvious to you already.

I genuinely didn’t have a plan, although I could have done a much better job at wording my question. I was slightly toasted.
I guess I’m just wondering what player really connects you to this team and makes you feel like it wasn’t just a giant Madden style fantasy draft that led you this roster.
Obviously there’s turnover on every team and I’m not accusing anybody of bandwagoning here.
Pels have a very new roster, but we’re also doing a ground floor rebuild. It’s gonna take time, and we may struggle, but it’s gonna be fun to watch them grow together.
I don’t know, I guess it’s just the old school in me that appreciates continuity. The new NBA isn’t really trending that way and that’s fine. Those old Spurs teams and even these Warriors just give me the “these are OUR guys!” feels.
frick me, shite thread, blah blah. I get it.

I knew you’d set me straight on this
And you’re right.
Just a swing and a miss on my end. Hopefully my most recent post clarifies it a little better.

I was born in 81 without a pro team in my hometown. Other than finding a team to like when I got into basketball, what options did I have?
Bandwagon fans, IMO, jump team to team as wins dictate. Getting into a team when you're a kid and sticking with them...I'm biased, but I don't see that as bandwagoning.
We all get into a team for some reason.

This is always the answer from "Laker" fans

I understand
But you got into the team because they were winning
It’s fine, i wish I was smart enough to do that to be fair
But I wasn’t

How non-Lakers fans feel when they didn't pick the Lakers as their first favorite squad.
Posted on 10/21/19 at 11:08 am to shel311
I picked the Lakers to ask this question about because it actually interests me that we have a legitimate title contender who could be holding a trophy next June with pretty much no long-tenured players on the team
Even those Heat teams had Wade, the Celtics had Pierce, Warriors had their home grown guys.
I just can’t think of another example of this happening and it fascinates me.
Surely it isn’t the same as watching Kobe win those titles, right? That’s really my only point here.

The Lakers were also rebuilding. The end of the Kobe era had them looking at guys like Jordan Clarkson as the future.
I see it like this. The FO job is to upgrade the roster. They clearly did upgrade the roster. When you have the chance to acquire good players, you have to.
To use an old Lakers example, I was bummed when they traded Vlade Divac to Charlotte. Vlade was a likeable guy and had been a Laker for a while. But, they got Kobe Bryant in return. Those are the sort of moves a franchise has to make to upgrade.

Of course
Not knocking the process at all

Agreed but isn’t that how it is with most franchises with tons of titles?
They also have just now(well not just now 2013), but in the mid been in their years of just being shite
