Say what you want about him, but Ed O has done a phenomenal job at LSU. USC made a bad decision by letting Orgeron walk . Look at the direction our two programs have been going in ever since. Now he is pulling 5 star players out of California where in the past those same players would have been locks for the Trojans.

Not sure that O would have had the same effect on USC as on LSU even though OI think he had success.
CA would not have given him the same support long term

I agree. Orgeron succeeding at LSU is like a baw dream come true. He would have always been some kind of joke at USC, even with success.

Pat Hayden decision not to hire O was awesome. Alleva decision to hire O was also awesome. LSU saved what 9 million in 2 years not hiring Jimbo. Where is tam ranked?

Orgeron plays in southern living rooms far better than Southern California living rooms. Schools still need somewhat of a cultural fit.

Can’t get into details but people in the know will back me on this. USC wanted to hire Orgeron as head coach but there were personal issues which forced him to decline.

There is a Coach O song that was sung by the fans at USC

O was a cult figure in LA, and one thing about Hollywood is that they like characters. He could have won with USC.

Interesting. I didn’t know that.

Really wish I could explain because it gives you a greater respect for Orgeron on a personal level. I can tell you that coach John Robinson played a big role in the decision. Ask someone you know who’s got scoops they may have heard the story.

who knows what would have happened at USC. if Oregon doesn't luck into Burrow last year he's likely not our coach this year

little random lucky things like that change courses of coaches's careers

I completely disagree.Orgeron is a down to earth guy and a straight shooter. That’s why he is a successful recruiter. He can recruit and does recruit kids from all over the country. Parents don’t care about his accent or that he grew up in south Louisiana. They care that he is genuine, and I think that he checks that box.

Then why didn’t USC hire him? I was always lead to believe they didn’t because they thought he wasn’t a cultural fit for USC.

He was not a cultural fit for their administration/University. It wasn't about recruiting

Oh I thought Orgeron identified the issue at QB and actively worked to get Burrow onboard with coming to LSU. Didn’t realize Burrow just fell into his lap. Silly me.

Every time SFP posts an underwhelming troll, some lonely young man receives an arse out hug from his hot female friend.

Orgeron made Urbs choose Haskins over Burrow?

ETA - props for getting him, but it was luck that he was even available.

It’s not some dirty double secret it’s actually kind of an inspirational human story. It’s just of a personal nature, some people may know about it some might not, I just don’t feel comfortable airing the details. But there isn’t and never was any animosity between USC and Orgeron, everyone understands why he didn’t take the job and there’s still mutual love there.
