Business-backed candidates won six of seven contested seats Saturday night for Louisiana's top school board, which means the push to overhaul public schools will likely continue for another four years.

All the winners were backed by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, the state's top business lobby, over rival contenders backed by the two teacher unions -- the Louisiana Federation of Teachers and the Louisiana Association of Educators.

Both teacher groups have opposed the growth of charter schools, vouchers and other classroom changes and backed candidates who hoped to slow or even roll back efforts to re-work the education landscape.

The tallies mean that business-backed BESE members who favor sweeping changes in public schools will likely control eight of BESE's 11 seats in January.

First we stop JBE from winning in the primary then we get a republican supermajority in the legislature, St. George wins, and now we find out that pro school choice and pro education reform members will have a supermajority on the BESE board too.

The work is not over, we still have to send honor code into retirement, but it looks like there might just be a chance to save Louisiana after all.

Only state in the country to lose jobs under the Trump administration is a rebound?

I voted for her. I do not know anything about her, but my mother has worked for one of the failing rural school districts in NELA for almost thirty years and she told me not to vote for Ellis's opponent.

Louisiana's public education is so crappy that I do not think it can get any worse. So is it even possible to do a bad job? Worst case scenario is we keep the status quo and stay dead last.

Oil prices are a world market ramjet, has nothing to do with JBE. If anything Drumpf is more responsible for that issue here

Even your lord and savior the honorable JBE said that Mike Foster was the best La governor in the last debate. That is how I know that you are a troll or intellectually disabled.

Even if I am one or the other, or both, it doesn’t change the fact I am right and you are wrong.

JBE is a native of this state and, unlike you and that loser in the White House, served this country.

I wonder how much gumbo pot is paying them. I have some alter accounts and student loans that need paying off. I might need to get in on that action if the price is right.

So? There are plenty of POS that have served this country. Just because they joined the military doesn't make them qualified to run a state or make the exempt from criticism.

Glossing over Babeling Blankstare and failure to mention “I won’t raise taxes” unless I can raise taxes on every man, woman, and child of Louisiana even the poorest of the poor, so I can drive our jobs to Texas, JBE?
