Has a CFB team ever finished the season in the top 5 in both passing & rushing offense?

Oklahoma currently leads the country in total offense, averaging 669 yards per game. That is exactly 100 more yards per game than the team ranked 2nd, UCF.

Oklahoma is averaging 375 yards passing and 294 yards rushing per game, which both rank 4th in the country. Thats insane

If they finish the year in the top 5 in both those categories, that has to be the first time that has happened, correct?

Let them get past Les Miles this weekend before printing the shirts.

It would be hard to do both because the triple option teams dominate the top 5 in rushing.

Damn. Sounds like they need to play some real opponents.

Only team I can think of is maybe Baylor like 4-6 years ago when they had Lache and Petty. They were around top 5 in both I believe.

Defensive Rankings of OU's future opponents using LINK

Kansas 100
Texas 52
West Virginia 59
Kansas State 26
Iowa State 37
Baylor 56
TCU 5
Oklahoma State 53

So they play only 1 Top 25 defense and only 3 in the Top 50. And that one Top 25 defense on the schedule, they have owned the past few years offensively.

Yeah they are going to break some records.

2008 OU is the only one I can think of in recent memory who would have had a real chance

ETA: 3rd in passing, 20th in rushing.

I bet those early Four Horsemen ND teams probably did it.

Notre Dame practically invented the forward pass; they were the only team doing it plus they had an awesome rushing attack.

I looked back to 2009 and couldn’t find a team that has.

Makes you wonder what those stats would look like if they had played tough teams like Ole Miss or Vanderbilt. Troy too

As crazy as that offense was they didn't even finish top 10 in rushing. Teams who refuse to throw the football at all really do dominate the rushing numbers for obvious reasons in college
