Texas left him alone after the first quarter. That is called “winning”...
Winning individually. Obviously that was a winning decision for Texas since their passing game improved drastically when they moved away from him.
Not knocking Stingley, he did exactly what we wanted him to do. We just need the other 2/3 of the field to get on his level.

He plays in there slot a lot and out wide, he does great against bigger receivers

Our "fans" are so fricking stupid.

With a fair amount of success. I like Stingley. He’s great. I know this will be unpopular, but I don’t believe he will match Patrick Peterson. That guy, as admired as he is, is still under appreciated on here. Imo, he is the greatest LSU player of all time (not counting QB’s).

Hey nerds,
Stingley's off to a good start.
But DBU isn't about stats.
If you want to talk GOAT, then we need some INTs, big hits and Badger mayhem.

Can't really compare Stingley to Tyran. Tyran was not a lock down corner.

thats a state
Simply put the fact that he is locking down WR is his #1 job and your an idiot if you don't appreciate that
At this rate he will get 3 Int as a True Freshmen. PP7 had 3 in his first two season.

At this stage, he's definitely ahead of where Patrick Peterson was. Peterson was good as a freshman, but it took him almost till the end of the season in 2008 to finally start, Stingley was immediately the best CB on the roster when he stepped on campus. Peterson had 3 pass breakups and 1 INT his freshman year, Stingley has already surpassed that on the season. It's not directly apples to apples in comparison, but hard to argue against Stingley's trajectory right now. The kid will leave here potentially the most decorated DB we've ever had here. Stingley is a lock for freshman All-SEC and freshman All-American. He is also a legit candidate for 1st team All-SEC, which is crazy for a true freshman. Dare I say he could even make the regular all-american team, maybe not consensus, because that's almost impossible for a true freshman, but he's that good.

Fun fact. Tyler Shelvin has as many PBUs as Surtain.

Well, it is one thing for a corner to do it, but Delpit is a safety - even free safeties have to make a shite ton of tackles. I don't think that's what is going on.
Again, unless it is contagious and he spread it to the entire defense, linebackers included. Something else is going on with the tackling and - hopefully - it is correctable.

Legitimately crazy. Now, I'm a huge fan of PP, but this ignores our running backs like Kevin Faulk, Charles Alexander, Jerry Stovall, Billy Cannon and our "all world" players at other positions like Tommy Casanova, Glenn Dorsey, Kevin Mawae and even Peterson teammate Tyrann Mathieu.
"Greatest LSU player" is a tall order to fill - while PP certainly is a candidate, I certainly can't see him as a consensus choice with these other players to consider.

Surtian has one of the highest PFF season grades for CBs in the country right now (#3 in nation)
Has allowed 13 catches in 21 targets but for just 80 yards and a 49.7 passer rating against (NFL scale). That's only 6 yards per catch allowed and 3.8 yards per target. Really insanely good numbers.
Take note Stingley sitting there at #5...as a true freshman
Stingley has allowed 8 catches on 21 targets, doesnt list out yardage allowed though. Stingley has 7 PBU and 1 INT, which means 8 of those 13 "misses" he caused, not just misfired passes or drops.

He just needs to start completing his interceptions and he'll be the complete real deal.

True, but PP7 was behind a lot more talent. Stingley and Fulton are it besides other true freshmen.

Not true. This is a perversion of the coaches' statements that he was the best at bowl practice. Greedy and Fulton were not there.

Agreed. I'm not running down Stingley. PP7 was just better. When Stingley matches up one on one with someone of Julio Jones' stature, and pretty much dominates him, than I'll reconsider. And PP7 did that to every single receiver he faced in college.

I've never seen anything like it. He's by far the best Freshman cover Corner I have ever seen. At LSU we've seen some really good Freshman Corners but Stingley is on another level. People are trying to compare his Freshman season to PP7's. I don't think that's a fair comparison. To PP7.
Keep in mind that Stingley is doing it in this modern, wide open, pass heavy era. Corners have never had to cover this much space but he's almost single-handedly erasing half the field.
By the time Stingley leaves for the NFL in three years, he's going to be the best to ever do it for the Tigers.

He's already better than Fulton. Not hard to really debate either at this point.
Also, Stingley absolutely is better than Peterson as a freshman, really no debating that to this point. He's already surpassed him comparing just 1st years.
If you want a premier WR shut down - Collin Johnson, pretty sure he didn't allow him a single catch when he was guarding him, and almost ripped one away for an INT from him.

You sure about that?
Peterson's freshman year...JR. Chris Hawkins and SO. Jai Eugene were the starting corners prior to Peterson ultimately taking over for Jai Eugene that year. Not sure he was behind "a lot more" talent.

Delphit has been injured and they have been trying to keep it quiet. He finally admitted yesterday on the (247) interview. He has a shoulder injury, but they need his guidance on the field.
Also, Stingley is definitely better than Patrick Peterson as a freshman. Patrick himself has even admitted it. Patrick didn't start until the 6th game of the season. Coach O stated last week that Stingley was the best cornerback on the team even during our preparation for our bowl game last year.

At this stage of their careers, no, Peterson was not better.

Peterson didn't "dominate" Julio. They each had some wins and some losses, as is always the case when elite players face each other.

Yeah that’s a good point, I also think it has to do with other teams not throwing much at surtain
