The bad message Brennan’s hit sends

If they want these guys to lower the target that had to be called. A guy standing without bent legs should not be getting hit on his helmet. It will slow the rusher down to bend his legs and lower his attack angle, thus making the game safer. It’s not hard, use replay to determine if the target was crouched or crouching and if not then it’s a personal foul. By that standard Devin’s hit would also be a penalty.

If I’m a defensive player, nowadays, I’m trying to put my helmet/pads into your knee and tear your ACL.

Devin White's hit should not have been a penalty and neither should the hit yesterday.

I agreed with the non-call because they do not have a clear description of targeting. It sure was not late so no roughing could be called. By today’s standard it was a no call but if they could clarify that a defender can never hit a fully erect target in the head then I may feel differently.

Which is also a penalty, so, no.

Now, how much do we want to bet that LSU gets flagged if one of our players hits Tua the exact same way?

I watched football all day.
Miles hit was overturned
Exact same hit was called targetting in another game
In the Utah state vs San Diego State game exact same hit was not called at all.

peTunia can't take a hit though.
Apples and oranges.

A new football rule going into effect this season requires players who target and contact defenseless opponents above the shoulders be ejected. The change increases the on-field penalty for targeting by adding the automatic ejection to the existing 15-yard penalty.
I think that play met the new definition

Honestly I think they picked it up based on how it was a half and half call and would’ve just resulted in more bitching by Vandy fans saying the refs wore rigged or whatever else. Glad it went the way it did

Damn, I hate that we have to rehash this, but since you brought it up.....
Regardless of other criteria, there must be "forceful contact to the head or neck area". Devin White, in my opinion, didn't even touch Fitzgeralds head or neck. He pushed him in the chest. At most, their face masks might have touched. Under no interpretation of the rule should this have been targeting.

If they get to him.
Big if.

Just mandate rugby tackling

It was targeting yesterday because Racey raised his forearm and him above the shoulders.
