It’s more viable because idiots like you don’t understand that hydrocarbons produce a lot more than just vehicles and power homes.

Do you have any comprehension to how many materials and products are made downstream because of hydrocarbons?

Good God.

Give me a quick breakdown of where the country of denmark gets its power. Should be easy.

Same for uruguay.

I wonder how 30,000 cargo ships will be operated, how about the trucking industry?

Dumb arse cahoots thinks that he can just waffle from overall energy usage to narrow niches without getting noticed while simultaneously pretending that me saying "multiple decades before fossil fuels can be competed with in terms of OVERALL energy needs" = "there won't be any other sources competing in ANY niches"

Which, of course is asinine. I mean, I live in the TVA for frick's sake.

We're talking about viability from an energy standpoint. Yes, they are the only option for lots of goods.

Yes. MULTIPLE DECADES from ANYTHING even THINKING about competing with Fossil in terms of output and efficiency.

Why do you keep forgetting about nuclear? Maybe you should hit yourself in the face before you keep typing this incorrect statement.

And, from another source FAVORABLE to your view.

In 2030, renewables should cover at least half of the country’s total energy consumption

Do I need to keep typing?

Oh. And, yeah. Human energy needs are HUMAN energy needs. Cool. There are a few places on the planet(like where I live) that can take advantage of shite like DAMS, wind, etc.

We are MULTIPLE DECADES AWAY from that being REMOTELY competitive with fossil fuels dumb frick.

How long does it take to get the permits, clearance, etc. and actually have a nuclear facility in operation?

I don't forget about it.

Why do you pretend it's remotely politically viable? Hell, the people most likely to promote nuclear are the people who the green people hate!

Dont' worry dude.

We're gonna shite out about 10,000 nuke plants in the next 4 or 5 years...........with a complete plan for dealing with and transporting their wastes..........and yeah..............we're just not even going to calculate the total fossil fuels required to actually build these things.

It won't take long at all!!! Cahoots says so!

Nuclear and natural gas should be the energy of the future.

I’m not going to read all 11 pages of this on my cell to see if anyone covered this portion of the topic, but has anyone mentioned that solar panels are made up of a ton of pure silver and that there isn’t close to enough silver (mined and unmined) on/in the planet to build enough solar panels to power the entire state of California, much less the entire country?

Solar can be implemented as a small percentage supplement at best. But it is physically impossible that it could replace large scale power generation.

The coolest new power generation technology to come out recently is wave technology. They attach these giant paddles to piers or buoys in the ocean, and as waves come in they flex the paddles up and down, and hydraulic pipes on the paddles force hydraulic pressure down lines to a station that uses that pressure to turn turbines which ultimately generate electricity.

It’s 100% clean, very cheap, very efficient, and endless. Watch for more and more coastal cities to start using these.

I answered it. Fossil fuels are necessary for many things. More the reason to preserve our domestic reserves for those things when there are alternatives for others.

yeah but didn't you know all those materials made from hydrocarbons could be made out of hemp? we just need to plant about 2 billion acres of "hemp" then everyone will be "happy"

Well. I mean. We could discuss for pages upon pages the reality that none of these morons like Cahoots seem to realize that this shite doesn't materialize out of thin air. They see it work in some tiny niche and think, "no problem, apply it to 7 billion people!!!!"

Hell. There's a great link that discussed the added carbon emissions that would be required to produce the number of windmills it will take to achieve stated wind energy goals and the number is equal to something like 5% of ALL CURRENT worldwide carbon emissions! That's right. We would have to SPIKE THE frick out of the emissions they want to avoid to achieve this unicorn result!!!

I'm sure it's cool but you and I both know that it will have some environmental impact on sea life that pisses everyone off.

And while I admit that I have no understanding of proposed locations nor the engineering of systems, my experience snorkeling and diving has given me great respect for the power and unpredictability of the oceans.

That is an awkward sentence questioning the durability of these systems in the long term.

You are correct on that. But electricity is already at greater than 50% from renewables (which is what I wanted to say). In a very short timeframe.

Does that sound niche to you? More than half of the entire grid of denmark?
