My opinion is they’ve tried some things the last two weeks and they don’t like the results. They’ll go back to what they know works.

Team cannot abandon zone coverage entirely. Can’t do that against teams with running QBs. We will get killed.

You can with our offense. A running QB can’t run enough to score that many points. He will wear himself completely out and start fumbling or throwing interceptions.

Booger gives decent analysis. Have to believe he knows something.

There were some cryptic comments about putting things on film and not putting things on film a week ago... seems like we’ve held back a lot of pressure packages

I like to think, that we are deliberately showing kinks in our defense that we want Bama to exploit, and then come up with a master plan that will blow them away..

You still have to mix up coverages. They can be man heavy...but they have to be able to mix in zone and be successful

Maybe Aranda took responsibilities from a position coach?

Thanks for posting, I missed it. Aranda isn't just sitting around. He knows a title is very possible for this LSU team. You can bet he's working his arse off to get it done on defense.

It’s pretty obvious Aranda is trying to teach zone concepts to a bunch of man coverage cbs and green young guys in back end.

When you get into SEC offenses (as good as Texas or better) you better be able to play shut down man to man or go home.

Chassion is a athlete not a bull.AWFUL scheme for him the tackle never had to think about what he was doing.Nolan Ryan threw a mean fastball, but that's not the only pitch he used.

Aranda is playing a vanilla defense, except for a few blitz packages in the 2nd half of the Texas game. Don’t expect anything different until the Florida game, IMO.

IMO they will begin to use some of the LB and safety blitzes that Aranda used so effectively at Wisconsin.

It is hard to believe but run blocking by the OL is harder to do than pass blocking. That was why most college teams spent most of fall camp working on running the ball. They then gradually added the pass blocking and pass plays up to the 4-6 games of the year.

It’s pretty obvious by our first 3 games that many teams are going to 3-4 WR sets and throwing the ball. You may have noticed that they, like LSU are not running the ball nearly as effective, but they are blocking well a 4 man pass rush.

I can’t remember seeing but one innovative pass rush this season. It was against TX when Chassion rather than rush from the edge dropped around Rashard and rushed up the middle. You could almost feel the QB’s surprise. The QB was either sacked or got called for grounding. I forgot.

A lot has been made of how well Divinity knows the defenses and play calling which is why he has been moved to MLB. Maybe getting him back back full time will result in less confusion and more innovative of attacking the QB. But I predict we will more innovative to rush the QB.

Didn't read all 5 pages, but...

I'm not panicked about our defense. We destroyed Ga Southern, eliminated the option. Played well 1st half against Texas, played well 2nd half against Northwestern.

2nd half Texas, they caught fire. They're a good offensive team, this game was huge for them (going for it all the time), and we maintained the lead during their run. It was embarrassing, but not time to panic.

1st half Northwestern, we were overconfident and sleepwalking. Embarrassing again. Whole team was that way, not just the defense.
And Northwestern was a safe game to fart around with some different things, to see what might work.

I don't see us playing around when we play Auburn, Florida etc. I don't see us taking them lightly either. We'll run what we know works, and if we find some new stuff during the cupcake games we'll add that in too. I think this will end up a typical LSU defense.

Mam coverage, blitz heavy, Ika in the middle.

It's an easy fix. The experiments are over
