Believe she was not in good health, though it wasn't public.

Didn't typically agree with her, but I certainly miss the days of "boring" news featuring respectable people you'd probably nonetheless find to be enjoyable, interesting company over dinner or coffee.

Agreed

Brinkley, Donaldson, Roberts on a Sunday roundtable.

Media was biased then and I got mad then too, but it was a long way from the outright libelous absurdity you get these days, and frankly our side was easier to listen to as well.

So did she, but I kind of disagree with her premise.

I remember reading a column of hers back in the 90s, when she was lamenting the loss of civility in politics. She compared the 90s to her time growing up in Washington in the 50s and 60s, when elected officials and their families lived near each other, had barbecues and parties, the kids went to the same schools, etc. They could disagree on issues, but since they all were "in the same neighborhood" it was all nice-nice.

To me, this is an example of what the left prefers, a political elite class, and wrong as hell - elected officials keeping themselves (and their families) away from their home base, insulating them from their home state style of life and losing REAL touch with their constituency, and also immersing them in a more urban, liberal lifestyle.

Nowadays, most Washington politicians I know of (at least locally) keep their families at home and come home often (basically weekly) thanks to cheap and plentiful airfare options.

Roberts in that column pretty much stated she didn't like the way it changed, and wished that more elected officials should bring their families to Washington.
