Idea to help College Football with their P5 vs G5 problem: Relegation

Each P5 conference partners with a G5 conference.
At the end of the year, the two worst in the P5 get relegated down and the two best in the G5 get moved up. (Or 3)
This allows teams like UCF to have a chance to prove they belong with the big boys and gives them a realistic argument for the playoff.
Example: ACC partners with American. UCF is moved up for winning the American last year, and would probably do well in ACC this year. Also Temple would move up for having second best conference record (or Cincy if you go by overall record).
Whereas Louisville and UNC would have been relegated to the AAC.
Thoughts?

Why would any current P5 school agree to this?

I really like it but none of the P5's would agree to it. There's no incentive for them
ETA: what happens to the kid that commits to a P5 with the premise of playing against big time competition and gets relegated?

Pro/rel won't work in the US.

Nobody from p5 would ever agree to relegation. The only way to get weaker schools out of a conference is if the conference blows up. It's like hey vandy all this sec money you don't deserve. Take a huge paycut and play in the sunbelt.

It's better than super conferences.

Same thing that happens in soccer. Get better and move back up.

From a financial standpoint no it’s absolutely not, because there’s no risk of them losing that pay day

I love this idea, I just don’t think the P5 would ever agree to it
Which sucks because it could be really cool

No, I'm actually longing for the 4x16 team super conferences. So much cleaner for football.

Soccer instituted this in their leagues before teams were worth millions of dollars and thus could literally go out of business when relegated. Heck, some teams already come close to it when relegated.

Pay to play will change financial situations.
We don't know how yet.
But these could be the Super Conferences broken into two tiers each. Top tier gets higher payouts, and chance to compete for playoffs, and there's incentive involved for the bottom feeders to actually try to improve.
Having UCF in the top tier of the ACC would be more fun than Louisville this year.

Its the same problem as super conferences:
No one is king or commissioner of football so no one can force the programs involved to do this.
College football will continue to be the Wild West, continue to play useless bowls, continue to have a questionable post season and no one is going to change these facts.
If you are a real fan of college football part of the appeal is that it isn’t ran like the NFL or any professional league would be run. It’s ran like dysfunctional crap and we are all better off for it.

quote:football is a business. They'd only be interested in moving teams around based on who brings in the most profit. Wake up to the real world.

I would love it but no chance P5 would ever do it.

Somehow I don’t see Ole Miss voting for a system that would see them relegated to CUSA while Southern Miss takes their place.

I wouldn’t like it

Illinois would get smoked in the MAC. Central Michigan would get smoked in the B1G. Dumb

Dumbest thing I have ever read. Next

How many stupid relegation idea threads do we have to endure before the idea goes away?
