This is obviously new this football season before the games in TigerStadium...religious prayer with an actual “Amen” replacing the universally accepted “moment of silence” at most sporting events around the country. I’m curious what the board thinks about it.

Follow-up questions:

-would you be fine with LSU requiring a prayer before every class held at LSU?

-would you be fine with LSU allowing political endorsements over the Tiger Stadium loudspeakers?

I love it. We used to do one back at least as late as the 80s from what I understand. And I'm not a religious person or even traditionally conservative. But its nice to come together and reflect like that. I would like to see it continue.

ETA: It's not even really a christian prayer unless I'm hearing it wrong. Just saying we hope for peace and safety during the game.

Typical...and it'll get shut down and cost the school money. Not sure why this concept is so hard to understand.

Like it but always a slippery slope. Have to deal with all the wack-jobs who want equal time/representation.

Even my dad noticed that and he's been going to games since 1954

I’m not religious at all, but why do this bother you?

Because this has already been decided, and is completely unnecessary. There is already a moment of silence, during which everyone is already free to pray to their heart's content. Asking everyone, as if everyone is religious, to say a prayer is forcing some to stand around and wait for it to end.

Put it this way...if this was not obviously a Christian prayer, and people were asked to take part, there would be more of an appreciation for why it's out of place.

But like I said, someone will challenge it and it'll get stopped.

I assume you're talking about potential first amendment issues. SCOTUS has repeatedly permitted voluntary prayers prior to city council and legislative sessions. I'm staunchly in favor of separation of church and state but I don't think a prayer before a football game rises to the level of a legitimate first amendment issue based on that jurisprudence.

Not religious, but other than it coming off a little "high school football" there is literally no harm by it.

Anyone who finds offense in that is way too sober at kickoff

So you mean the majority of the word who are not Christian. Yeah... how dare they not want to listen to your bullshite “make a wish” foundation to an imaginary sky daddy.

Because despite having zero evidence to support their claim and despite not being the majority of people in the world, Christians want to dictate what others can and can’t do. Being judgemental pricks is just in their nature.

I love it. Let's keep those Rosary beads warm year-round, especially for March Madness

Not offended. Just amused that this keeps getting attempted and keeps getting shut down.

There's a reason we haven't been doing this for a long time in Tiger stadium, and it sure as shite isn't because Dan Borne is an atheist.

Trust me...in 2019 on a college campus, this'll get shut down with a quickness. Then the butthurt will flow.
