Hey guys, my crew and I are leaving at 5:45 A.M. tomorrow from Lafayette. We are hoping to arrive in Austin before 3. It's a 5.5 hr drive but we are prepared for some traffic. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's going to be smooth sailing for a while but watch out getting into Austin. I would take I-10 to 71 so that it puts you on the right side of Austin but at the airport take 183. Parts of East Austin can get sketchy but you should be ok.

^ This. I have been in Austin since 2006. I-35 is a pain in the arse even on a Sunday afternoon. Gameday Saturday is a nightmare. Minimize your time on it by taking hwy 71 in.

If you take I-10 to 71 there is construction west of Sealy. I am not sure of teh schedule for this weekend but there have been some weekends where it is bad.

If it starts backing up you can take FM 359 north to 290 in Brookshire, exit 732 or Hwy 36 North to 290 in Sealy exit 720.

Leave early.

Sleep at a Truck Stop. There's some nice people there that will probably "like" you.

Waze will give you 3 different suggestions on how to get there and avoid traffic. In case you aren’t familiar with it, I would hit the “routes” tab every hour or so bc you never know when an accident or traffic jam will occur after you've already started driving.

Here's the link to TXDot. You can use Lafayette as a starting point.
