As PTLSU indirectly showed above with that saddening .gif, the TIMING of a call or no call could cost you a game.

I get your point but if the Rams had 30 penalties for 200+ yards in that game it pales in comparison to that one no call and they win.

the horns down penalty is a Big 12 interpretation of taunting

Hopefully our players and coaches won't be stupid enough to risk doing something that they know could result in a penalty. Besides, the horns down sign is a Big XII thing. It would be like if their fans taunted us by calling us corndogs.

I've been reading this thread on Surly Horns. Holy frick their fans are arrogant. No chance LSU's fat olinemen can block for Burrow, Ehlingher will run all over our D - no question, they smoked Georgia in the bowl game and LSU is worse than Georgia, new offense same LSU, etc.

of course. And it stinks when that happens.

But my post was that refs don't make bad calls because of bias for or against a team. They just screw up.

What

Cue the above GIF. The three refs in place to make the call were all from the West Coast. Bias happens. Believe it. How many examples are there for Bama? Come on. Humans can be manipulated by both internal and external influences.

It will be an sec crew

God I hope not.

They’ll go out of their way to show everyone how they’re not biased in favor of the SEC team and we’ll get shafted again. I’d honestly prefer Big 12 refs (and refs from literally any other conference including FCS refs) over SEC refs.

Except that we’re not snowflakes and nobody actually takes offense to being called corndogs.

ok fine. Why don't you analyze every play of that game and get back to me on calls that went for and against each team? And then do that for every game of the season. Then with a big enough data set, we'll get a better picture of bias. Just don't cherry pick one play.

Sometimes refs screw up, but to blame it on bias is just childish. Refs get graded on every play and every call they make. If their calls are too slanted for or against a team, that would get noticed and their career would be over.

They've worked decades to get where they are. Rational adults know they're not going to jeopardize that.

While I don’t believe refs are biased in general, you have to think there are still those that for whatever reason ( money, like/hate, etc ) exist.
To believe otherwise is very naive.
We are all human after all.

if it's a Big 12 crew, then we are f'ed. If it's a SEC crew we are f'ed even worse. Better be an unaffiliated crew just for the sake of fairness. Don't want to see another situation like the aTm game last year where we win a tough hard fought game only to be f'ed over and have the game stolen by a Birmingham bug eyed red neck freak crew.

it's amazingly stark the differences in how the games are reffed when their isn't an SEC crew involved. It 's odd not to see weirdly interpreted head scratching calls or phantom calls that nullify big plays at crucial times in a game. Just plain straight up fair calls that are easy to see, called the same for both teams, and called the way the rules were intended.

Would give us a fairer shake than a SEC (Birmingham associated) crew.

of course every human being has some level of bias in certain areas. I fully recognize that.

I'm just saying I don't think that has any real impact in sporting events (other than the Russian judge's scores in ice skating).

I truly think that referees and officials at the major college and pro levels call games without bias toward teams.

Now, they may have a bias toward a certain player - that's why pitchers known for their control often get the benefit of the doubt on the corners by umpires, or why Michael Jordan or LeBron get their fair share of calls, because refs know they're the best athletes on the floor.

But I just don't buy that there's a systemic problem with refs being biased for or against a certain team. They've spent decades rising to that level - they just have too much to lose.

In fact, if anything, I'd argue it works in the opposite direction. If I were an SEC ref, as an LSU grad and fan, I'd work extra hard to make sure my calls couldn't be viewed as slanted toward the Tigers, so I might actually subconsciously slant calls AGAINST my team. But I just think most refs who've been in the game a long time have gotten past.

We should make it clear right now that we refuse to play any game that has SEC refs. Just have the team refuse to dress out or go on the field in any game until another non SEC crew is brought in. WE need to send a message to the SEC criminal cartel that we aren't playing by their biased bigoted so called 'rules' any more.
