After nearly four decades, Louisiana police have charged two men they believe brutally raped and murdered an 18-year-old girl before disposing of her body in the woods.

Leo Laird, 64, and Gary Haymon, 54, were both charged on Monday in the death of 18-year-old Donna Gayle Brazzell, according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.

That's the problem with our justice system, if anyone is blasted on the news as charged, people think they're automatically guilty. Don't know how that can be changed, but it's a definite problem.

I still trust that our system will determine guilt or not regardless of what our media reports and how they do it and I will happily say I was wrong if these men are found innocent. The system worked.

The way they report is a separate issue and I agree, it’s ridiculous the way they ruin people’s lives over accusations and presumption of guilt for clicks and headlines.

Well when people with your mindset are part of the system I have no faith at all. Too many prosecutors rely on your mentality- that the severity of the crime outweighs the need for evidence- to secure convictions.

One of the fundamental precepts of our nation is that a person is innocent until proven guilty and is deserving of a fair trial by his peers. Unfortunately this wish of our Founding Fathers takes a back seat to many other things they advocated.
