I say yes but others say no.

I present you with evidence that he sucks namely this 1989 Greek Theater show that isolates Weir's guitar for the entire show. Even fast forward to China/Rider>Playin' where he should shine and its awful. Some guy in the comments section said it sounds like a kid with his first knock off Strat.

Yikes. Also goes to show how good of a guitarist Garcia is to cover that up.

Jerry fired him twice, tried to replace him with duane. That was the reason for the bad blood between Jerry and Gregg

I listened to a good bit of it and while some of it is pretty creative, a lot of it is sloppy and just not good. I think that sums up live Grateful Dead a lot of the time though. Bob has never claimed to be Steve Cropper, but I also agree with some of the comments about him being lucky to be in such a successful band. Also, hilarious to see the fans come in droves to white knight for him

No, weir is overrated though and I’m a big fan of the dead but they are one of the top 3 most overrated bands by the obnoxious fanboys

Overrated by who?

Everyone knows bobby has ALWAYS been a questionable guitar player. Its not like hes on any top 100 guitarists lists. He also played a very loose and unique style of rhythm guitar.

Fake news, Gregg thought Jerry was a narc. That is why there was tension between the two.

That's not to say that Bob hasn't ever had a streak of a-hole in him. If you don't believe me ask Robert Hunter.

Yes him and Donna Jean were the worst parts of the Dead. Now his beard and slow arse tempo annoy the shite out of me.

All of this. He's not a great guitarist by any means, but he worked great as a "foil" to Jerry. His almost syncopated rhythmic style definitely contributed to the band's sounds.

That being said: some of the worst ever moments of GD shows were when they'd be finishing up some soulful, deep exploratory Garcia song and then he'd fire up some full on Bobby cheese song choice.

Just my curiosity, it matters none, but what was bob's lifestyle away from the band. I know he was married and had a kid, but i had friend who traveled for probably 100+ shows and said it was commonly known that bob prowled around looking for young boys whenever he was in a town

No inflammatory responses necessary i was just wondering

My understanding was everyone else in the band had substances as their vice while Bob was the poon hound.

It's not that bad. He's playing fills and rythym. I just heard Eddie Van Halen isolated and it was some of the sloppiest crap I've ever heard.

It wouldn't surprise me if he had some bisexual encounters (I'm sure a lot of rockers who did as many drugs and partied as hard and long as Bob have had them as well), but he was known as a poon hound for sure on tour circles. Definitely liked the young women and would pull young hippy chicks backstage all the way into the 90s at least (when I was following them).

nope nope nope

taking 1 track from the shitty 90's? meh

Listen to some late 70's, you can't tell who is playing what a good bit of the time.
