Terrell Owens: Antonio Brown has legitimate gripe regarding helmet concerns

If there's any wide receiver in NFL history qualified to speak on Training Camp controversy, it's Hall of Famer Terrell Owens. And Owens, who is third in NFL history in receiving yards, says that he's sympathetic with Brown's concerns about switching from the helmet that he's worn for a decade.
"I can side with Antonio Brown, to an extent," Owens said on the Damon Bruce Show on 95.7 The Game. "Right as I was phasing out of the league, they started implementing the new helmets. Obviously, they are more dynamic...they have a different shape to them...obviously, they are engineered to prevent concussions. But, at the same time, if you're used to something for so long that's what you like to use, and there's never been an issue, then I can side with him in that regard."
Owens went on to suggest that while the NFL views this is a safety issue, Brown is deciding based upon what he's comfortable playing with. He suggested that if there haven't been any issues regarding head injuries to Brown while he's wearing that helmet, it doesn't make sense for the league to prevent him from continuing to wear it.

I haven’t followed this story much.
But does the NFL had data that shows the new helmets are safer and result in fewer concussions?
If so, and the league policy is for all players to wear the new helmets, Brown needs to STFU. He reall has no legitimate argument to continue wearing the old one.
On the other hand.... if this is typical NFL PR move with no real scientific data supporting the new helmet, then I sort of agree with Brown.

I'd play in booty shorts with a leather-head helmet on if it got me 30 million guaranteed

NFL is worried about their brand. Not if a WR is happy.

That too, both head cases as well.

ESPN had something that showed that concussions in games and practices were down 25% last year with players who wore the new helmets
ETA: LINK It was actually 29% and was regardless of the helmet

TO is the ally Brown needs right now.

That’s a pretty significant reduction.
Again, I haven’t followed the story that much, but if the new helmets are shown to be safer, Brown needs to shut up and play.

Finally, they get someone's opinion with a level head.

That's some 2nd grade level reasoning right there.

I don't think it would be legal, but the league should be allowed to offer AB a legally binding contract that resolves them of any negligence if AB suffers from concussions in the regular season or from any lingering concussion symptoms after he retires. This helmet thing is only due to them having to shell out massive sums of money over legal cases that arise from concussions. If AB is willing to take the risk then let him wear whatever helmet he wants!

Yes. I read Peter King's MMQB article yesterday. Think they were down 20% or something

If a player doesn't want to wear the new helmet, they should just make them sign something where the player acknowledges the old helmets lead to more injuries and agree to absolve the NFL of any and all liability from injury if the old helmet is worn.
