Weakening economy?

My God-daughter works in higher-end finance with an international banking firm, we had lunch today and I questioned her about the yield curves (she had mentioned it to me about a year ago as something they were watching). My theory was that the inversion was being driven primarily by ginned-up domestic fear followed by foreign investors fleeing negative interest rates overseas.

It turns out I had them backwards.

We began to discuss fundamental drivers and she said everything they are looking at is showing the economy is strong and being driven by a high CCI that they don't see changing anytime soon.

You are high as a 9th life if you think things “werent that bad” at the end of bush’s 2nd term. The bottom completely fell out.

I am NOT high. They talked us into it just like they are trying to do right now. You made my case for me with your last sentence.

What? You should be if not.
How about you share some of those examples of the media causing the recession, ya goober. It would probably make the case a lot better than my unrelated factual statement.

As Margaret Thatcher said: A Country gets the government it deserves.

At the end of the day if the American voters are stupid enough to fall for that shite about the economy faltering because enough people say that it is, then we deserve everything coming to us

I stand by my statement. Things were not that bad until right at the end, then, bam, driven by the hyenas in the media telling us they were bad. Think about that last sentence you wrote, and prove me wrong.

well it's pretty clear that consumer spending is the strongest consistent thing driving growth right now, along with govt spending at all levels. it sure ain't net exports or business investment.

it is a bit ironic you had that conversation today, since the last datapoint on consumer confidence came out Friday, and it was sort of awful:

LINK

as i've said before, i don't see hard data that tells me "recession imminent". but if this is consumer sentiment is the strongest thing going, and it might be fickle based on stock market jitters, with weakening business sentiment & investment pretty clear in the data, maybe the WH is wise to at least make a contingency plan or two
