Connecting 2 routers without running wire

Is this possible to do? We just got Att and that came with their router. Our old router is just sitting in a closet and wanted to sync the 2 together to extend my WiFi range

Some routers can do wireless bridging but they are specialized and probably won't work with your ATT router.

So my best bet is running a wire from one to another I’m assuming?

That or buy a mesh system

How do these mesh systems work? Do I just plug it into the wall and sync them together?

Check to see if the old router has an access point mode.

Have the same set up at my house and wanted to use a better net gear router. The two will not jive well together. You will need to access the modem interface and disable both 2.4 and 5 signals from the Uverse modem. Can’t do away with the uverse modem and access point access or your wireless uverse boxes will not connect. Hope some of this helps.

Asus will allow you to do this. I love my asus routers rec’d by this board.
Just FYI if you have gigabit don’t get a mesh system

Not long ago I bought one of those wifi range extenders and so far it's worked out really well for me. It basically just creates another wifi signal of your existing with "-EXT" on the end and you can connect to that. Has given me good service on my balcony and was only about $30. Could be an option if you're not able to link the two you have.

I have gigabit Comcast and about to buy a mesh system. Why do you advise against?

Mesh interconnects the access points wirelessly - each AP down the chain from your source, your speed cuts in half.
So if your laptop happens to connect to an access point that is two spots down, you're getting 250Mbps of your 1Gbps connection.
Is your place big? Is it range or something else causing you to want to go this route?

Man I just started a thread about mesh systems looking for some advice. Everything I read I thought was pointing me in the mesh direction. Are you saying that if I have a mesh system with 1 main module that plugs directly into my modem and then 2 modules that I put at separate locations in my house that my Preferred Package through COX, which is 150 download speed will be 75 at one AP and 37 at the other?

Yes, but even worse than the numbers you posted.... overhead (retransmits, errors, etc) doubles for each hop as well.
