Kind of a spinoff i guess of the ‘What time do you wake up and how old are you?’ Thread.. i’m curious:

1) How old are you?

2) at what age do you plan to retire, and/or at what age do you think it’s, for lack of a better word ‘appropriate’ to retire?

I’m in my early 40s and am busting my *** to try and retire in my mid 50s, or earlier.. partially dependent on what kind of shenanigans the stock market pulls over the next few years, of course... My guess is that some people will say they love what they do and will never retire; i know people like this, they say they need to work in order to have a purpose.. and some will say they’d retire tomorrow if possible.. personally im confident that i could find lots of purpose in life whether i’m working or retired.

I'd retire tomorrow if I could. I'm 41. It's going to be awhile though.

55 for me. That would be 37 years at the same place. Got 15 to go!

It's not about age, it's about money.

Agreed.. but i know a couple of people who are loaded, have zero need to work ever again, yet they continue to work full time because of enjoyment/purpose.. wondering how many people here would here would fall into that category if they had the money to retire(?)

I took a few years off in my 20s. That was stupid.

58 now is the goal.

I really wanted 52.

I hope to retire at 70, but I might go longer if circumstances allow. I would think 72 or 73 would be optimal.

Me for sure. I'm young for my early 60's. I've had the opportunity to take a "sabbatical" a couple of times in my younger days. It was cool for about six months the first time and about 4 months the second time. Now I want to work in as many different fields as I can until I get sick and die.

That's just me. I enjoy work. I'm a different kind of cat.

There is no "appropriate" age to retire. If make $500m at 25 then retire.

Of if you make $40m at 30. Doesn't matter.

Your non-employer subsidized health coverage will be about $2000-3000/month.

I do think some people get board with retirement and some people can't stand the thought of retiring.

Yes but did you enjoy it? Or were you just locked up in a loony bin or something?

If you enjoyed the time off, traveled etc. then I’d say it was worth it, because in your retirement you might be in bad health or some jagoff could hit you while texting and driving and you might not even make it to retirement.

I'm in my early 30s and aiming for 60.

I will say I don't see myself spending another 30 working at my current company.
