Trying to stay away from the big boats and crowded launches. Is there anywhere by Kerns or along the levee I could put in at ? Looking for bream and bass TIA

I used to launch mine here, pretty sure I wasn't supposed to. OnX shows that it is owned by St. Martin Land Company.

That’s almost impossible in Henderson.

You could put in at Kern’s. It’s rarely crowded. And the Boulevard is typically pretty good for bass and bream.

I’ve been told that place is a no no.

I’ve put in over the levee in the pits north of that location. I was told that that’s ok as long as you don’t park on the levee. Not sure there’s any room to park on the inside of the levee with the water as high as it is.

Here is a better map of Indian Bayou.

Damn, I remember seeing an old overgrown sign and deciding that I would play ignorant. I put in 5 or 6 times there. IDK if I'm just paranoid but I had it in my head that I was probably trespassing.

I’ve learned not to trust what some of the locals tell me when it comes to that place.

If I have concerns, I call the local LDWF office.

He used to have a cabin on the property that he would rent. It burned down. That’s probably why it says that. But he does have a ramp with a box to pay the launch fee. I believe a kayak is $2 and boat is $4. Honor system. Write your lic plate number on the envelope and drop it in.

Correct. All the way along the levee until you get to Basin Landing is considered the Boulevard.

Were you in a blue kayak? I was out there that day in my bass boat and rode down that way just to run some gas through my motor. It was thick with salvinia by the ramp. But I remember seeing a guy in a kayak (I think it was blue) when I passed that way.

Who is he, these days? I haven't spoken with Arthur Kern in a while so I don't know if his family are still the owners. He and I worked together for a long time.

Yeah, once you've there it is obvious why it got that name.

Just chatted with Arthur, it'd been a while since I did so I took this as an opportunity. Jake is his brother, The two of them and their sister own it but Jake and his sister pretty much take care of the landing itself. Arthur apparently owns that little bait and tackle thing across the street from the levee right there by Kerns.

I'd say that's about as good a place to launch a kayak as there is that side of the interstate.

FYI, just texted with one of the Kerns, the launch is still open, just doesn't have the building with the store there anymore.

I used to launch my kayak on the levee at Wiltz's landing at Henderson. Not many big boats at all and a nice grassy area next to the launch to put the kayak in.

LINK

It looked like it was still there last week when I was fishing out of my bass boat with my son. You can paddle straight across into some nice cypress or fish around the boulevard. I will say the cypress directly across from that launch have plenty of wasp nests in them as of last week.
