Why Should’nt 11-1 be the bar this year?

Weigh in.

What does it mean for it to be the bar? Do I want to be 11-1? Sure. Is my prediction 11-1? Sure. But “the Bar” is so arbitrary. If 11-1 is “the bar”, what happens if we go below 11-1? Well if that’s 10-2, nothing will happen. It will be called improvement and we go on to the next season. The bar is just a way to say expectation but not really.

Is it realistic to expect this coaching staff and team to go 11-1 and make the playoffs? If not then what is acceptable?

Where did I say it wasn’t ok to expect 11-1?First off, I think the days of the committee giving 2 SEC teams a playoff berth are done without some OOC teams giving some serious help. I don’t think if we were 11-1 with a loss to Bama we would make it anymore. It’s unfair but I think that’s how it is. My point was saying 11-1 is “the bar” is intrinsically different from saying it’s expected. Saying 11-1 is the bar implies something negative about anything below 11-1, and also is just a generally dumb way to view a college sport. While I would prefer 11-1, I wouldn’t be screaming my head off if we went 10-2.

Anything less than a 10-2 regular season would be extremely disappointing for me

That is something I think any true fan can agree with

I’m OK with that early season. What if Alabama comes out flat? It really could happen.

I dont think 11-1 should be the bar in any season. For me, 10-2 is the expectation. Look, it's college football and sometimes weird shite can happen. Some games go down to the wire and a blindside sack fumble return for a TD or a corner slips on the turf and gives up a long TD pass. These things happen.

Well said.
Don't fully agree with the leaving out two SEC teams though. That all depends on so many other factors, but it's certainly possible for the SEC.

I don’t know. I’ll check the other 23 threads on this.

In addition to everything else, 11-1 with an SEC schedule also requires a bit of good luck and going largely injury free.

Or, like the 2011 team, being the best team.

So we didn’t have any luck on our side in the 2011 Bama game?
