Is it realistic to expect this coaching staff and team to go 11-1 and make the playoffs?

Expect, maybe. It is definitely reasonable to be hopeful, tough expectant may be dangerous (for the nerves ) territory.

I think it is realistic to expect 10-2 and to be hopeful for and not surprised by 11-1. It is even reasonable, at this point, to allow for the possibility of an undefeated regular season.

I hesitate to use the term "bar" because most of the time people use that in reference to running off a coach. All sorts of things can transpire in the season that change those expectations, not the least of which are teams being better than expected and injuries cause us problems.

Ultimately, the specific loss or losses also imp[act my assessment of a season. That being said, I will be disappointed if LSU wins less than 10 regular season games.

FTR I was not a fan of the O hire but I acknowledge he has outperformed my expectations whough underperformed relative to my hopes. As of today, I am on neither bandwagon and, though I was initially underwhelmed, I like what I've seen regarding recruiting in the last year or so.

12-0 or 11-1 is a great season, 10-2 is the floor for a good season for me barring any unexpected developments, anything less will require an evaluation of the losses to determine if the season was still a good season given specific circumstances. The following assessments are based on no significant injuries. 9-3 would be within the gray area of acceptable, though disappointing. An 8-4 regular season this season would be an utter disappointment under almost any circumstances.

I’m pretty sure 90% of all LSU fans feel this way.

Someone in a thread I made literally just posted that there are scenarios where 8-4 should be acceptable.

Yeah, that would be the scenario if half team gets kicked off for drugs and crab leg theft.

At least he’s not quoting himself in his own thread like the imposter is.

I won’t link his thread, hopefully you can figure out who I’m referring to.

I thought it was, but after 24 players missing the 6th day of practice, I'm not sure what to think. I don't get the surprising number of players out. Doesn't make any sense.

I’d say 10-2 is the expectation, and everyone should be thrilled with 11-1.

by "the bar" do you mean the record you would be happy with and below which you will be less happy? We went 9-4 in 2017, 10-3 in 2018, so I would be very happy with 11-2 in 2019.

I have seen the term "the bar" used in many threads but never with an explanation of what they mean by it. It is really incomplete to say "the bar" with out adding what it is your bar of.

Every 3rd year a coach doesn’t go to the playoff lets fire them and start over. This place is full of dumbasses.

What if we went 10-2 and won’t the SEC?

Would that not be acceptable?

In your opinion, 11-1 or what?
You going to be disappointed.
Fire the HC?
Fire the DC?
Fire the OC?
Or just bitch like hell. That SOP win or lose..

there are many complete dumbasses that post on this forum so by "the bar" that is probably exactly what some of them mean. I really think a lot of them must be trolls because there can't really be this many stupid people but who knows, maybe there are.

In addition to everything else, 11-1 with an SEC schedule also requires a bit of good luck and going largely injury free.

I mean, people say this team has a 2011 feel to it. I don't see how you can say that and also say that 10-2 would be a great season.

The bar shouldn't be 11-1 because we cannot compete with what Alabama is putting on the field right now. So there's 1 guaranteed loss on our schedule, and it will be there until we can prove that we can beat them. Setting the bar at 11-1 means now that you expect the team to go undefeated through the rest of the SEC west, Texas, and Florida. It can happen, but setting the bar right there is foolish.

You can argue that coach O isn't the right guy b/c he cant compete with bama. But, everybody in the nation is unsuccessfully trying to compete with bama (sure, Georgia and Clemson have had success lately). We are just the best team that has to play in their division, so there is more of a comparison. 11-1 this year would be fantastic. So I say the bar should be 10-2, and hopefully a good showing in Tuscaloosa and a nice bowl win.
