Yeah my parents are staying at the Hilton downtown so they’ll be right off 6th street. I was trying to avoid that area for tailgating if possible.
I forgot about the drag (don’t go around UT’s campus very often), but I’m sure it’ll be a fun time before a big game.

Since I live and work here in Austin we wanted to give everyone an idea of how we do it. Will be a mix of UT fans and LSU fans.

I know that the LSU Austin Alumni group is planning a tailgate but I don't think they have the specifics yet.

I hope this is an open invitation, if so we'll be there

Texas does something called Bevo Blvd on game day - a kind of street fair/ tailgating thing on the street where the north end zone is. Food trucks, beer, TVs with other games, etc ( I think live music too but not sure)

Here's a map of gameday and tailgating areas for this year. The red area is the "no assembly required" premium tailgating area by Tailgate guys where they essentially set it up for you. Rich folk and corporate types will have big setups there for LSU. I've only ever been there for the USC game last year and and if you have a tailgate to get into, it's nice. But your mileage may vary.
The scattered purple areas will be standard parking lot tailgating for those who have the corresponding parking passes.
Yellow areas are first come first serve tailgating areas, mostly grassy field areas. There should also be plenty of setups along and south of MLK Blvd (which is 19th street btw).
Directly West and North of the stadium is Bevo Blvd, which has food trucks, vendors, big screens, etc. The Texas team and band will march through there (from north to south) 2 hours prior to kickoff. Pretty cool but becomes a major clusterfrick 30-45 minutes before kickoff. It's extended this year around the north end of the stadium to reach the Longhorn City Limits music stage. No acts have been announced for this year, but last year we had Jimmy Vaughan, Aloe Blacc, Ghostland Observatory, and some others.

This is cool. Do you know when they announce the lineup for Longhorn City Limits?

417, how early do you expect cars lining up there to tailgate? Specifically by the San Jac garage? Any passes needed?
QPR? Prayers sent pal.

Anyone bringing an RV to Austin? Looking for options to park besides lot 113.

They didn't do this when I was a student. Since Dr. Hanna has been at UT, their band has copied a few of LSU's tradtions, i.e., marching into the stadium following the players, the four corner salute during pregame, and a band chant featuring the first four notes of The Eyes of Texas, which sounds a lot like LSU's famous first down "Geaux Tigers" cheer.
I thought that LSU fans had it bad as far as being pushed out for tailgating until I saw that map. Damn.

Having never personally setup a serious tailgate, I don't know for sure so I can't help you there. But I would guess, that close to the stadium for a big game like this some people will be getting there around or before the 7am green light for setting up to stake their claim.
You won't need passes to set up in the yellow areas, but keep in mind that most of those are grassy field type areas, so it's tents rather than vehicles and all parking within the access points is permit only (LINK ). I'm not sure you'll even be able to get cars past the access points without a high-end parking pass. I don't know if they let people unload tailgating stuff then bounce, but my hunch is no.
Here's another map for tailgating at State lots south of MLK. (LINK ) It's out of date though as lot 7 for example is a giant hole in the ground right now.

Yeah thanks, it can be tough. But it's in the blood, my dad's a lifelong fan (born in Shepherd's Bush). Won the first game of the season Saturday.

Downtown Austin actually has quite a bit of green space and parks.
You would probably have to kick the homeless out to be able to use it.

Sadly, you're probably right. I'm not a fan of the city council's decision to basically give the homeless free reign to set up tent cities in public spaces. I went for a run on the Town Lake trail last weekend and there were several homeless hanging out around the restroom facilities.
