A permanent 25 percent tariff on all imported goods to the United State from China would create more than one million American jobs by 2024, a new study concludes.
The U.S. could undergo a massive, nationwide reshoring-jobs effort if it imposed a permanent 25 percent tariff on all Chinese imports, Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) researchers Jeff Ferry and Steven Byers find in their latest study.
An across-the-board tariff on all Chinese imports — coupled with the impact of Chinese trade retaliation, federal aid for U.S. farmers, and federal investment from tariff revenue — would add about 1.05 million American jobs to the U.S. economy and boost the nation’s GDP by $167 billion by 2024, Ferry and Byers reveal.
“The tariff would stimulate domestic production, beginning with small increases in US manufacturing and escalating over time,” Ferry said in a statement. “The certainty of a permanent tariff would be more effective than today’s tariffs and speed up business decisions to move production out of China, with a portion of that production coming back home.”
I mean... Just DAMN man...
hurts???
Mommy need to kiss that boo boo??

Republican voters are overwhelmingly supportive of tariffs on foreign imports to protect American industries and U.S. workers. The latest Civiqs/Daily Kos poll found that nearly 70 percent of GOP voters said tariffs on imports are “good” for the U.S. economy. Since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was enacted and China entered the World Trade Organization (WTO), nearly five million American manufacturing jobs have been eliminated from the American economy. The mass elimination of working- and middle-class jobs and depressed U.S. wages due to NAFTA has coincided with a nearly 600 percent increase in trade deficits
Just DAMN!!!

Anything that can be done to protect this premise is what I support.

Free trade is a good idea on paper. So long as you are dealing with like minded nations, it can work.
This is NOT the case with China. They are not our friends and are looking to take the USA down.
It's ok to think outside the box.....
IB90Proff just can't wrap their minds around it

True doc.
Two other points, one its not a tax on the people if they DONT BUY chini products.
Second, the tariffs are far less a cost to the US consumer than the 400 billion dollars of IP theft. Its the reason US consumers pay more for many items from computer software and hardware to "Frozen" book bags or Nike sneakers. The corporation has to make up for the sales lost from chini knockoffs being sold throughout the world. And they make it up where there are trademark laws, the United States.
I laugh when IB talks about chini wanting to protect their IP...they are the ones stealing it, the chini govt themselves.
During WW2 we wanted to build an air base in chini to fight the Japanese in chini (and stop the raping and killing of 100s of thousands of chini) and the Pacific.
They wanted gold. We agreed. They wanted us to pay for the whole thing. We agreed. They wanted 50% more than the cost. We agreed. Yet it was still delayed, while thousands more died, because the chini bureaucrats could not decide on who got what share of the kickback. You cant negotiate with people whose soul is rotten to the core.

Googling china airfield ww2 reveals nothing like your story.
However i did find this from the National Museum (AF):
During World War II, the United States and China forged a strong friendship based on mutual strategic interests and shared sacrifice in fighting and defeating Japan in the Pacific theatre. A key Chinese contribution involved the use of thousands of workers and hand-hewn stone rollers to construct airfields throughout China to support Allied offensive air operations and the airlift of vital supplies into China.
Perhaps you could let them know about your knowledge.
I find it weird that you would avoid directing me to this interesting part of history. It’s almost as if you made it up.

But the made up collusion narrative bothers you not.

So tax Americans to “create” American jobs? Let me guess, you were for the Bail Out too?

It's a very progressive policy.

The Coalition for a Prosperous America was started by Nucor and tariffs on steel have allowed them to raise their prices on American customers and pocket billions in profits on relatively small increases in steel production.
Stand with those politically powerful proponents of protectionist tariffs and their democrat friend Ross and Navarro if you like. I will stand with Americans.

I’ll put you down as supporting special interest protectionism.
Please don’t try that now proven wrong BS about Nucor needed to double and triple their profits for national security reasons.
Those steel taxes on all Americans are there for political reasons and those reasons are PA,OH,WI and MI. Next year when all the candidates are working those primaries they will be falling all over themselves promising to raise the tax on Americans buying steel even more.

The steel industry must be profitable to keep operating, because when things go wrong, it's always super expensive to get going again.
If you don't believe that steel production is a national security issue, I don't know what to tell you. You either don't know much about the industry, or, you are very short sighted about the future and the bleak possibilities.
You don't get steel mills up and running overnight, it takes years to build them and also a long time to get people trained to work there.
Even bringing an existing mill out of mothballs is a major undertaking, costing hundreds of millions of dollars, and it will take probably 2 years before it ever produces the first ton of steel.
In today's political atmosphere of uncertainty, do you want to continue to get such a vital material from foreign sources? Especially a country who is basically a philosophical enemy?
What could go wrong?
