Catching up on some of the ESPN: 30 for 30’s

I’ve missed a ton actually. Buckled and got ESPN+ because I wanted to go back and watch some of them and didn’t realize just how many there are now.
Just finished up Seau and Jesus Christ that was tough to watch. Anybody remember that one? Which one, if any, made you choke up or shed a tear?

I didn’t choke up or sheaf a tear but the tale of the two Escobars in Colombia was the best one out of all of them. I haven’t seen Seau but I will in the next few days.

The one about Marcus Dupree was kinda a downer there at the end when he talked about his mom after she passed away.
it really is interesting story cause he was out of football for a few years after he got hurt in the USfL. He worked his way back into shape and made the team with the LA Rams i think it was.
The OJ Simpson one was eye opening too. It gave not only his backstory but also the LAPD and touched on the riots as well.

Once Brothers was a sad one but also one of the Top 3.
The Canadian runner one also is a tearjerker.

The one on Tommy Morrison was sad as hell. Dude was hell bent on self destruction.

Almost forgot about Buddy Ryan’s letter to “his guys”
When Singletary and Fencik tear up it gets me every time, especially when Singletary just shakes his head and says, “I don’t know if I can read that.” And just walks off

It was really good. Won an Oscar for best documentary the next year.

"Survive and Advance" was in top 3 IMO.

Imo it's the best and most comprehensive documentary made in the past decade. Just watched it a few weeks ago after he got on twitter. It's mind-blowing the amount of detail put into it and the backstory of race relations in LA for a 40 year span.

The Two Bills was pretty good. I gained a better appreciation for Bill Belichick. He, in my opinion, is the best coach in my lifetime.
The O.J. one is phenomenal. Nothing more needs to be said.

There are a lot of really good one's. One of the best series that has been done.

I can't remember which coach it was in the Big East's heyday, I think it was PJ Carlesimo, but one of those guys had a defense he called the "mother in law" defense which he said stood for "constant pressure and harassment". I may have read that in SI or it was in that 30 for 30

is Fantastic Lies a 30 for 30?
if it is, it's the best one by a mile

Not sure if it was a 30/30 or not, but the special they did on the white guy that played for the Boston Celtics and drug addiction was pretty interesting.

When I need to get pumped up for a big ride I watch this the night before. Makes me wants to climb my arse off and COUNTERATTACK!
Prior to this, I had never really seen LeMond, only heard of him. Seeing him on TV in HD was really eye opening. Dude was flouriclasse all the way. and the badger was such a great villian and their coach was a huge douche towards lemond which made it all the better. great stuff here.

Yes.
Regarding the white Celtics player, that film is titled ‘Unguarded’. Also a great doc, it is technically not a 30 for 30, but titled as ‘ESPN Films presents’.
Other docs that fall under this umbrella include Fab Five, Catching Hell and The Marinovich Project.
These were basically a spin off production of 30 for 30 since it was legit just supposed to be the first 30 films and that was it.

I have zero interest in riding, but the story is such a great ‘sports story’ overall. You have an american breaking a sport’s barriers, you have drama, deceit, what some may call a very hateable character in the Badger, multiple recounts of what happened with none of them being the same....it really is just a great formula.

Shorter thread would be to ask which of the 30 for 30's people didn't like.
