He makes good points, but playing devils advocate, the players can say they get traded at a whims notice, so why is it a problem when the shoe is on the other foot?
Also, I feel as though the team that is about to lose the star would rather know before the contract is up if the player wants to resign or not (assuming the star has already made his mind up). So the trade request with a year and a half left in the contract isn't necessarily a bad thing for the team. The issue was with how things got leaked by AD's camp mid season and how those leaks hurt the team's prospects of where he could be sent out.
But still, I'd rather him tell us he wanted out when he did as opposed to playing through this year and just leaving.

quote:Agreed, the issue with the trade demand, and how it occurred was that he attempted to tank his own value to other teams. You want to play for a certain team that isn't your own? Okay, do it as a free agent. You shouldn't be able to force your team into trading you to one other specific team.

ETA: that being said, I am very happy with the return that the Pels got in the trade, but it could have very easily go awry. The Lakers were basically forced to do the trade because of LeBron's timeline and the fact that they couldn't throw away another season.

Let Dell Demps know that he won't re-sign? Absolutely the right thing to do. Make it public to try to force an immediate trade to the Lakers? That's a blatant disrespect for the contract that he signed -- totally slimy.

AD started the flood this offseason but it's Paul George who is going to have a lasting legacy. he had years left
