What was once the most powerful maritime force in the world that ruled the seas for more than a century has been reduced to the point it can't manage to fend off a band of souped up Ski Nautiques full of fanatical goat frickers.
If you'd kindly sit over there in the corner and sip your pumpkin latte and STFU and let the rest of us worry about the big stuff.

The Royal Navy is too small to counter the potential threat from Iran, the defence minister has admitted. Tobias Ellwood told The Times: “The threats we’re facing are changing in front of us, the world is getting more complex. If we are wanting to continue to play this influential role on the international stage it will require further funding for our armed forces, not least the Royal Navy. Our Royal Navy is too small to manage our interests across the globe.”

The news comes after it emerged that Tehran had ignored warnings from a British warship against seizing a UK-flagged tanker in the Gulf. The Stena Impero and her 23-strong crew are being held by Iranian forces after they were taken on Friday while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Guardian says the British government is facing accusations it had “failed to sufficiently guard its shipping in the Gulf.”

So we take care of them instead. Not a bad deal for them

A strong defense is vital BUT let's not pretend politicians aren't getting rich bc they're helping to funnel money to big defense contractors.

I believe what most want is for us to focus on ourselves and the way we spend on our military it’s like we are protecting the whole damn world while they give nothing back for it. We can protect ourselves for way less than what us taxpayers pay into military spending every year. I don’t give two shits about Britain or their crappy arse navy.

But does the Royal Navy alow trannies in?
That’s the most important thing.

Politicians get rich on EVERYTHING the federal gov't funds. DOD doesn't have the market cornered on that.

Fair but DoD has the biggest budget & it's the easiest way to funnel the money.

Point well made and agree 100%... but this description cracked me up!

I am all over the map on defense spending, and I know I need to figure out where I truly am on it.
Did I hear the annual defense budget is $700 billion? Or am I wrong?
If that is correct, then we taxpayers are defending the world, and have been for far too long. No wonder Europe can afford nicer trains and other infrastructure.

So because the Brits don't have a strong Navy anymore, American taxpayers are supposed to foot the bill to police the world? To hell with that. $22 trillion in debt and we're still subsidizing the rest of the world.

Call me cynical but I wonder who's pocket ole Tobias is in?
He is the English version of McCain, no military is big enough....long as Im gettin my fair share.

Please point out where I stated that's what we needed to be doing.

How embarrassing
If they didn’t have allies, they’d be fricked in an actual war.

Israel would save them.

NATO turned out to be a helluva deal for those Europeans didn’t it?

I'm not so sure about them not being able to defend. Wiki says they have 73 active ships ready to go.

I wonder how the Cajun Navy would do with 1/10 of their budget????? Oh yeah I know

Exactly this. If countries want to use our armed forces to protect them, that’s fine, but you need to pay us a agreed amount of your GDP that would otherwise be used for you to staff and train your own military
