I know i'm old but for the life of me I just don't get the whole "influencer" thing. What gives these Douche bags the credibility to promote anything.

Its no different than TV. TV stations put content on their channel that will attract people to watch. The higher the rating the content gets, the more advertisers are charged to promote their product.

If people on social media are providing content that draws a lot of people to their page, youtube channel, etc then companies have an interest in paying them to advertise their product.

The only thing people should be aware of is that the number of followers a person has doesn't mean that's the number of people they will reach out to.. In other words, there has to be some type of general percentage of followers who will actually see an advertisement.. But some "influencers" numbers can be inflated through several avenues and a number like 76k can be tricky.
