Trump finally makes big move on immigration, essentially ends asylum from south of Mexico

According to a new rule published in the Federal Register , asylum seekers who pass through another country first will be ineligible for asylum at the U.S. southern border. The rule, expected to go into effect on Tuesday, also applies to children who have crossed the border alone. There are some exceptions: If someone has been trafficked, if the country the migrant passed through did not sign one of the major international treaties that govern how refugees are managed (though most Western countries have signed them) or if an asylum-seeker sought protection in a country but was denied, then a migrant could still apply for U.S. asylum. But the move by President Donald Trump’s administration was meant to essentially end asylum protections as they now are on the southern border.

Dude has been almost all talk and no action on illegal immigration, but this will definitely help. Hopefully it gets past the courts, but I doubt it.

It’ll be stayed by a non-border Judge in the 9th Circuit by dinner time tonight.

He has tried hundreds of ways but the obstructionists (both legislative and judicial) have made it very difficult to move the needle.

You do realize we don't live in a dictatorship, right? Only so much an executive can do without help from congress and/or the courts.

Just ignore it, they do not have jurisdiction. In the words of Andrew Jackson, "The judge has made his decision, now let him enforce it".
The nonsense of judges making abstract national decisions needs to be addressed, no better time than the present.

Two strategic items here (1) positively alters the asylum game (2) moves the Democrat, liberal, progressive, socialists even further left with their craziness in supporting people breaking the law entering our country.

He has done more to slow illegal immigration than any President in my lifetime despite both chambers of Congress and the media doing everything in their power to stop it.
Eta: How could I forget our court system's role in this. They are as much to blame for our country's problems as anybody.

Wasn’t this already an international law or policy? I’m sure the left will still freak out.

This is why we accuse Trump's detractors of intellectual dishonesty.

if there's a bunch of folks from costa rica who decide they need asylum, why are they not stopping and asking for asylum in the 4 international borders they cross before they get to the US? and how would we enforce those borders?

'Asylum' is the biggest joke of this whole thing. People are using it as an excuse to come here and get a bunch of free shite for themselves and their kids.

Translation: his worthless counterparts in DC don’t want to do their job so he has to do everything on his own.

This. Democrats don’t care about immigrants, just like they don’t care about homeless people. They just want more bodies in their districts so they can get more federal money and get more congressional seats. That’s the whole game.
