You missed the part where it's clear he's not trying to say something racist. No rational person would interpret this as racist: "Go back to your country, fix their problems, then come back and tell us how that went." Only someone foaming at the mouth to shout "racist!" would interpret it that way.

I'm saying that it is nonsensical and it appeals to the racist/xenophobic faction that supports Trump. I don't know what the media is saying.

quote:

He just did in a press conference. Apparently what he meant is "if they don't like it here, they are welcome to leave." I don't get how you get there from the tweets but whatever.

In other words, still nonsensical

Getting mad at people for not being able to decipher nonsense is ridiculous. You can't even do it. He's pandering. Duh

We have the most dynamic tech industry in the world. We have chosen to invest in Israel, and buy from Israel, for largely political reasons.

And all we’ve done is enable Israel’s foolish and self defeating foreign policy, which endangers those people.

Ok. How would you answer if asked for your nationality?

Not at all what I said or implied. You are reaching. I'm not mad first of all, just annoyed. Second, it's not that the media and others can't decipher it at all. They are claiming that they understood what he said and understood it as racist, which is ridiculous. It's the trying to manifest racism out of nothing that bothers me.

You know the answer. What are you getting at?

It's not some new thing where Trump says something that isn't exactly what he means...see the "muslim ban." That sounded way worse but I never believed he planned on banning all Muslims because it's not possible to enforce.

At what point does someone stop being from another country?

Well that's certainly debatable, isn't it?

I don't think so. My friend was born and raised in England. He is now a US citizen. He loves the US. His answer would be that he is "from England."
So I guess the answer is that you are from where you are from.

Gauging at what point you consider someone to not be from somewhere else.

Yep. Liberals only like American jews that are non-practicing.

They absolutely fricking hate the jews in Israel. Israeli jews are more religious and the only religion the liberals tolerate and rally behind is Islam.

I know, but what are you trying to prove? I'm lost. I don't think there is one answer for the question. Different people answer it in different ways and it depends on the context of how you are asked the question.

All I'm saying is there's not 1 answer to the question. There are a lot of variables that impact the answer.

Well, if you are from where you are born then how should one take it when someone suggests you are from somewhere else, particularly when others who are born where you are born aren't given the same suggestion?

Please state definitively whom you believe this applies to, preferably with proof as opposed to conjecture.

I thought you didn't want to be disingenuous?

You've also seemingly changed your standard for determining where someone is from. This morning you seemed to agree that saying Diana DeGette is from Japan just because she was born there is silly.

I am not. You, on the otherhand...via deflection, seem to be. Your lack of factual evidence seems to be an issue for the narrative you are implying.

narrative

What narrative is that? The Trump is a racist bit? I've gone on record saying I don't think he is a racist or that his tweet reflected racism. I do, however, disagree that the question of addressing how we define where someone is from is some throwaway point.

And frankly, the answer to your parroted talking point/gotcha is irrelevant in this discussion. Whether we are discussing AOC or Norma Torres-- You want buy-in or do you want hyphenated Americans?
