The gift card.
Think about it from a company’s perspective. You convinced people to buy something in advance that many people will never cash in on.
And think about the amounts. Nothing ever works out to exactly $20 for example. So if someone uses their gift card and only uses $15 of it, the company gets a free $5.
If an item costs $25 and you use your $20 gift card, you got a customer into the store that spent an extra $5 than was previously spent. And while they’re in the store, they may make other purchases that they otherwise never would have made.
And then as I said, there are people who never cash in their gift card. So if someone never uses their $10 gift card, that’s just free money for the company.
It’s fricking brilliant.

underrated invention ever? I would honestly say my answer would be toilet paper.
TP is the worst ever. Flushable wet wipes shite all over TP. So much better at cleaning and so much more gentle.
Enjoy your down vote sir.

Lol you know what’s funny? I mainly use flushable wet wipes myself but in combo with TP. So wet wipes are tied with TP for the most underrated invention!

Toilet paper, plumbing, the fricking wheel?!? Almost all of this shite is rated incredibly high.
As for something genuinely overlooked, I'll say the phone case with card slots. They're incredibly convenient in this age. I only use one when traveling, but people stop me all the time and act amazed by it like there aren't a few million different kinds of them on Amazon for under 10 bucks.
Wife uses one 100% of the time and it has probably saved us legitimately weeks of life not having to look for the cards she'd otherwise lose in her bags.
