If you don't trade him I suspect you'll want to increase his trade value which means he needs to get minutes.
Can Moore really do anything to increase his value at this point in his career? Isn't it kinda a "he is what he is" situation at this point?

The main point of this thread was how people thought it was completely inconceivable that our rookies would spend time in the GLeague.
I question what would be better for their development, being on the end of the bench for a successful team and sometimes getting some garbage time minutes but being around the team, or getting more playing time with the G league team? I think Hayes could probably use more time with the G league team than NAW, because he's much more raw and new to the game. I think a big focus for him will be adding weight to his frame, and a focus on rebounding. NAW seems to be more polished and possibly ready to contribute.

OP got downvoted but he’s right. We’re all pumped about these rookies and rightfully so but it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to be immediate contributors.

I agree, NAW looked really good and smart, so I could see him being better off being with the team.

Hayes is so raw he definitely would be better getting reps. He had 28 points but 4 rebounds. How does that happen? I know some people have said he doesn't box out well and his rebounding numbers at Texas were pretty bad so they're probably right. That's something he'll only get by playing which to me says he needs to be in the GLeague a lot.

I'm also unsure what the goals for the season are. Griffin is talking Jrue up as MVP and has said they're going to try and be as good as they can be and they think they can be pretty good. Rookies are usually a liability. Buddy was a net negative most of the season and didn't start turning the corner until just before he got traded. If they want to win they can't give developmental minutes to the rookies early. I do think NAW is a possible exception, but he's also at the most stacked part of the roster.

This shite is so complicated to follow. Last week someone on here was saying that there is no longer the active/inactive distinction and that it was just 15 on the roster plus 2 two way players.

I'm guessing that guy was wrong and the inactive designation still stands?

They’ve changed it several times. It’s 15 player roster, a minimum of 12 active I believe, with 13 the most you can have active. So 2 inactives.

I thought they had changed that but that’s not the case. I just read the CBA wiki.

I know Gentry doesn’t have a good track record with rookies with the Pelicans but we do not really have a lot of examples due to the lack of picks this team had during his tenure. Hield was a deer in the headlights. If he wasn’t making shots, he was a liability on defense. So it makes sense that he gets pulled when his shot is off.

By all account and what NAW has shown, I think he has a shot to make the rotation early on. Most likely in limited minutes but I can see him getting more playing time as the season progresses. He has a lot of elements to his game that allows Gentry to let him play through his mistakes. Frank Jackson is probably the closest thing we got to seeing Gentry with a rookie who can play defense. Gentry allowed him to play through his mistakes even when his shot is off. I’m pretty certain NAW will find his way on the court as he gets comfortable with the offense.

Honestly its hard to say. Lots can happen. I think we may trade Moore similarly to how we did Mirotic. Where we cut his salary and took back minimal salary (stanley Johnson) and got second rounders. Miller also is thought by many to have been resigned for as much as he was with the intent of possibly packaging his salary and a Guy like moore and a first for another impact player. Idk about how much we use Melli, He was signed for too much to not see any playing time, but also dont know much about him besides he is supposed to be a good veteran presence with a good perimeter shot, but doesnt that warrant the 7th spot on the team in minutes? Kenrich is very cheap and so is worth keeping around but i think you try to stagger his minutes for Hayes and Walker if they can at least show glimpses of what they did the other night. Ultimately Hayes and Walker if they prove valuable enough to get some playing time should see more minutes than at least 3 of Miller, Wood, Kenrich, Melli, and possibly okafor as none of these guys most likely have a long future with the team. Okafor has the best chance to stick i think longer term just bc of his ceiling. As for the others, None of those guys will likely be on the team 2 seasons from now. I think those guys are all insurance for us if the rooks arent ready to contribute anything in the early going but if they come in more ready than initially thought they should get more mins then those other guys IMO.

Sometimes a player who is better overall at the game of basketball might now be as valuable to the team as a player who does one thing particularly well. And sometimes that specifically has to do with the other personnel on the court at the time. It's hard for us to see exactly how all the pieces are going to fit together, and I'm sure that it's a challenge for the staff as well, because this is basically a new team. So, the inactive question is really hard.

I keep flip-flopping on G-League time for NAW and Hayes. It might end up being a tough decision for the staff. For example, if we can draw up plays for Hayes that get him dunks with the 2nd unit, he might play a valuable 10 minutes for the team, but he might not develop as well as he could in the G-League where he'd get more time and have more opportunity to expand his overall game and get better for the long term.

I think with Hayes one of his biggest needs right now is to get stronger. I think he would have a better opportunity to do that with the Pelicans strength staff than in the G League.

I see the pro's and con's of both.
