I love when people don't understand the difference between an excuse and an explanation.

I'll just list it here:

Burrow had right around 4 months to learn the LSU playbook and attempt to develop chemistry with a very young WR corps.

The schedule was front loaded with his toughest passing defenses starting with game 1.

He was getting subpar pass protection for most of the season.

He was also given one of the worst LSU rushing offenses since the turn of the century.

I'm sorry you look at stats and see an average quarterback. There are QBs that overcome a lot, but other than Kyler Murray, Tua, or TL you would be hard pressed to find any QB in the nation that could have truly excelled under those circumstances.

You're acting like people are saying Burrow is a Heisman trophy contending QB. Nobody is saying that. Just that for what he went through last year, and how he progressed down the stretch, he is poised for a better season than most people in the nation expect.

16 TDs to 5 picks and almost 3K yards. Without drops, he’s over 3K.

Not earth shattering but not bad either

Burrow is going to light it up this year and lead LSU to a great season but he can't do it himself and LSU is a pretty complete team. My biggest concern is replacing Cole Tracy.

Exactly. I didn’t say he was bad, I said he was mediocre. Middle of the road. Average.

ETA: i also didn’t say it was his fault. I’d say 90% falls at the feet of O and E for the dreadful offense they placed him in.

And that’s where we disagree. I think most people think he’s average. Based on what I saw this season I think he is an above average college quarterback.

This seasons LSU offense is going to be the best we've had since the 2012 season with mett, odell, jarvis, jeremy hill, etc. They have a chance to be one of the best LSU offenses of all time imho. If we get our freshman rbs emery and davis-price to contribute like I believe they will, with the pieces we already have returning, we are going to hell to deal with. Our offensive line will he improved bc of returning experience and maturity alone...that's even without ed Ingram possibly returning, which is looking very good at this point i believe. I see kardell Thomas pushing for a stating job by mid-season as well. Joe Burrow has all of the weapons he could possibly need to run a very successful offense with his skill set. I cant wait to see the new offensive scheme and how the coaching staff utilizes all of our talent. This team is going to be in contention for an SEC championship for sure, and we all know that if you are competing for the SEC title, you are in great position for a playoff spot and are a serious contender for thexample national championship. This 2019 LSU football team has limitless potential, and I truly see this being a special season. Geaux Tigers!

And how much weight do you attribute to the almost complete lack of time Burrow had to work with his O-Line and receivers prior to the beginning of the season?

I would estimate half the drag on his stats came from that to-be-expected lack of cohesion due to drastically limited practice time.

The team goes as the offensive line goes no doubt

Ohhh...It's excuse time from Butteye Joe. Color me shocked.

I wonder how some of these freshmen qbs on some teams perform so well with the lack of work time with their O-Line and receivers prior to the start of football season?

We saw the potential of the offense in that game, but happened to get shut out later in the season if you remember.

We were able to run that game. I wouldn't say everything started to click yet.

I actually agree with you on this. And the younger guys played in a completely diff system the year prior. That's on the head guy though.

Orgeron really coached up Burrow well last year. Kudos to Big O. Without his mentorship it wouldn't have happened.

LSU's offense exploded the back half of the season, and I think we see more of that in even bigger fashion in 2019. It looked like something clicked against UGA, and aside from facing the nation's bets defenses, Burrow was a tremendous asset. He looked really sharp against TAMU and UCF

Dude you are rewriting history with p&g colored lenses. Offense did not "explode." UCF was overrated with a 3rd tier defense. No points scored against Bama. Remember that?

Did you read any of my other posts in this thread? Or did you just respond to the first thing you read?

I don't think 3500+ total yards and 30+ TDs is unrealistic for Burrow.

You're insane. And you said miss state was the best defense in the country??? Wtf

To put it in perspective Z Mettenberger threw for 3k yards and 22 TDs in 2013.
