Most likely the defrost heater gone bad.
How to test a defrost heater
When it goes it causes ice to build up on the coils. Also check that the passage between the freezer and fridge is not blocked with ice, that would cause the freezer to cool but not the fridge.

It froze up again after vdefrosting and with hardly anything in the freezer compartment. Tested the heater and it passed. The fan circulates air. I guess the thermostat is bad?
