Heck they could have done Galdiator but...nope... they settle for some Skrulls.
They actually never mention the name of the alien race. Jessica Chastain's character is never named either. That was one of my issues with this movie, though its not too important.

What was with the dreadlocks of doom mutant?

Shape shifters in the marvel universe I presume are Skrulls. I mean shite X-Men have so many stuff. Bryan already death with discrimination in part 1 and 2 even 3. They could ahve done SHi'ar then Phoenix after Days of the Future Past. Or they could have gone with the Phanlanx invasion.

The X-men movies have always been squandered the great stories and characters available. All they had to do was adapt some of the comic stories to movie format, and Cast actors who fit the bill. Boom.
But nope, too complicated. Instead we get bastardized characters, some poor casting, the dumbfounding decision to focus on Mystique, and some goofy plots. There is no need to have Magneto in every movie, esp since every single movie rehashes the same tiresome Prof X vs Magneto philosophies. Throw it all away and start fresh. Marvel will do it right and we’ll all be amazed at how fun and lively and action packed an X-men movie can be.

Until Deadpool, we couldn’t even get any Colossus or a decent Juggernaut. Ryan Reynolds made it look so easy. And when Wolverine is eventually reintroduced, I think Hugh Jackman will prove easily replaceable. You just need a stocky, ruddy, belligerent guy.

Marvel will turn it into a comedy. I don't need a bunch of witty quips in the middle of a big battle. Dark Phoenix had none of that and the action was better than most Marvel movies. One thing Marvel doesn't do is dark and gritty and that's what many of the best X-Men stories need to be.

Marvel has been able to make lively fun movies that aren’t comedies. Infinity War being one. I think that tone would work for X-men.

No, Infinity War was choke full of Bathos, that's all they know how to do now, everything needs a joke.

Bathos? Also why mess with a winning formula? Over 2 billion dollar success. Even a mediocre movie like Captain Marvel made 1 billion. Imagine a Jean Grey solo.

Obviously their formula works but there's a segment of the movie going public that doesn't want the same generic formulaic movie every time, which is basically what Marvel does. The X-Men movies at least have a different tone. Marvel will make them just more of the same.

Yeah, I live an hour away in a small Alabama town.
Thanks for the insights everyone.

A lot of small towns don’t get opening wknd movies even if there is a theater. Hell, I’m in a city and have to drive about 20 minutes to go to a theater I like.

X-Men don’t belong in the MCU. The universe they’ve created doesn’t really work with the mutants. You’d either have to start from literal scratch or how are you going to explain off where the hell Xavier was during the war with Thanos? And that means you’re changing the entire backstory.
I read X-men comics in the late 80s/ early 90s, and I watched the hell out of the cartoon on Fox. I understand Hugh Jackman is nothing like the Logan in the comics. But at least he made the character his own. He was great in X2 and The Wolverine, very good in DOFP, and incredible in Logan. I don’t think they’ll recast the role so long as they’re in this current timeline. Jackmans Logan exists in the future from where they are in Phoenix.

The MCU is more varied in tone than the Fox-Men Movies.
Winter Soldier, Infinity War, Iron Man 3, Thor Ragnarok, GotG - all vastly different films in terms of tone and inspiration.

That segment is small in number and not as profitable as the weakest Marvel movie. Ant Man.

A rigid, often unfun tone similar to some of the DC movies

A switch from serious to trival for comedic effect. It gets old. They overuse it. Especially since GotG.
This video made me watch Marvel movies in a different light. I noticed the cheap laughs way more than I did before in Marvel.

Lol Wonder Woman has pretty terrible/corny dialogue. That guy stinks

The alien race was the D’Bari. Her character was called Vuk. It was technically said, but in their language. They showed it in the subtitles.

It isn't good. Some of the effects and seeing x men fights are cool, but the story is pretty much garbage. Very lame bad guys and the whole way they set up the phoenix story was rushed.
