I saw a report that said Garza is leaning towards returning

And if this is the case, and he has let it be known, he won't be drafted in rounds 5-7. You will probably see him in the super late rounds like Hess/Watson last year.

Hampton is an immediate starter in LF or RF next year. Huge get for LSU

What's the downside of drafting him in the first 10 rounds and not signing him?

You lose that slot value from your pool.

I could be wrong but the way I understand it is if they draft him and don’t sign him then they lose his slot value for this draft.

Nice

Would be great if Garza could start out on form next year instead of his slow start this year. The difference he has made on the back half of the season is astronomical

Well you don't get that pick for one if he doesn't sign, but you also lose out on that money (which is a change from the past). You don't get to use it on another player. So teams will be more focused on getting guys they KNOW they can sign in rounds 1-10.

The night has shaped up great so far. If we manage to get Philips, Lewis, Cairo, Travinski, Doughty to campus, then wow. At this point that’s still asking for a ton though.

Tomorrow will likely tell the story for these guys. Great first night so far though.

Hope Smith gets taken before the night ends.

I’m sure we will miss out on one of those but with Garza staying like I said Hampton and Doughty is all I can really ask for. Would be great to have a plug and play infielder with the departure of Broussard and maybe Smith

That’s the ideal scenario.

There’s probably not any way we can fit all those guys on the roster without losing some significant players to attrition.

ETA: But it’s a good problem to have.

Yep there will be some serious roster juggling if that plays out. But definitely a nice problem to have

It's not as bad as you think. I accounted for all of these guys earlier, except for Hampton and the number was 39. So Hampton would put it at 40. That only leaves 5 spots. There is always going to be some natural attrition that takes place. Having this issue will mean great things for LSU baseball.

We obviously have several guys that could be dropped in favor of those names, but it becomes a scholarship distribution problem. I didn’t read the article but I think either Cain or Mainieri hinted at this to a reporter. There’s some people they haven’t been expecting to be on campus. We know who some of those are, but if others show up we may end up in another Cabell situation.

Has anyone here learned what “understanding” Orgeron & Mainieri might have come to regarding Hampton playing baseball uninterupted by Spring football practice or will he miss baseball games on football practice days?
